Cooks River parkrun, Sydney, Australia

We were down in Sydney for Easter back in 2019, we were visiting some of Caroline’s family. It was one of those rare occasions when I picked up a new parkrun event but Caroline did not because she had already done most of the one in this area. It is situated about ten kilometre south west of Sydney’s Central business district in a suburb called Canterbury. The course is run right along the Cooks river which was named after Captain Cook the famous English explorer. They are talking about changing the rivers name to Aboriginal word Goolay’yari, which means “place of pelican dreaming” I don’t mind what they call it but I mainly like it because it is fast and flat. A double out and back starting and finishing at Saint Mary Mackillop Reserve.

The start gets pretty crowded so get up the front if you want to run fast.

After my run, I jogged back to find Caroline but I didn’t get far before an older lady doing parkrun just starting falling over and fell flat on her face on the concrete path. I was able to help her up and get her a drink of water. It was hard to tell if she tripped or fainted. I told her she should report it to the run director but I think she was too embarrassed, told me she was ok and left. It all seemed a bit strange to me but there is only so much you can do.
