Ingredients
🌽 400 grams sweet corn canned or fresh from the cob
🥛 80 ml whole milk
🍬 3 tablespoons sugar or panela powder
🧈 1 tablespoon butter melted
🌾 115 grams corn flour
🧀 200 grams grated "queso campesino" cheese
🧂 Pinch of SALIMIA Sal Rosa
Instructions
1- Prepare the Corn Mixture:
- Place 400 grams of sweet corn in a food processor or blender.
- Add 80 ml of whole milk and 3 tablespoons of sugar or panela powder.
- Microwave 1 tablespoon of butter for about 10 seconds until melted, then add it to the corn mixture.
- Add 115 grams of corn flour and a pinch of SALIMIA Sal Rosa.
- Blend or process the ingredients until a thick, coarse batter forms.
2- Mix with Cheese:
- Transfer the corn batter to a large mixing bowl.
- Add 200 grams of grated "queso campesino" cheese.
- Mix thoroughly with a silicone spatula until fully combined.
3- Shape and Cook the Arepas:
- Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat and lightly grease with butter.
- Take a portion of the dough, place it in the heated pan, and flatten with a spatula to form a round arepa.
- Cook for 5 minutes, then add a small pat of butter on top of the arepa.
- Carefully flip the arepa using a spatula and cook for an additional 5 minutes until golden brown.
4- Serve:
- Serve the arepas warm. You can enjoy them plain, sandwich them with slices of "queso campesino," or drizzle with honey for a sweet touch.
