I am a guy who never enjoyed asking for things borrowed from other people. So I never asked anyone for their car. In Brazil, I had my first car when I married, a small Ford Fiesta that had a very small trunk. For Parents without kids, it is amazing, and also buying a car in Brazil is so expensive. When I arrived in Canada, I had the money to buy directly some used old cars, but you could also loan from the bank and finance one new/old car or get a leasing which is nothing more that a fancy term for a car loan.

I bought a super cheap car a 2012 car, the year was 2017, I had just arrived in Canada. A Dodge Avenger, a sedan car, which was comfortable and the mileage was a bit much... more than 90 thousand km. About a year after the purchase I started to have some problems and a mechanic told me that soon the engine would fail and the fixing would be very expensive. He recommended that I buy a new car. After that experience, I decided to take a look at new cars. I thought that this way I was going to avoid going to garages to fix the machine, I had only one problem! My work permit was valid only for 2 years and the dealership's finances were a bit hard to get either financing or leasing since most contracts are at least 3 years of length.

So at Toyota's, I found the only deal that it could fit into my life. Leasing of 2 years length. For those who don't know the main difference between leasing and financing is that in leasing you don't own the car. It is mostly you are paying monthly to use a car that isn't yours, since after the end of the contract you have to return the car to the dealership or just pay the rest of the balance of the full price of the car, then in this case, it becomes yours. A Toyota Corolla wasn't bad, a sedan car good for a family with one kid. The payments were a bit much for us at the time, since the shorter the period of time, the bigger the payments.

After 2 years of sacrifices and also doing some extra jobs, I could pay without any problems during the period of 2 years. After that, I also got my permanent residence which opened the doors for longer period loans. I returned the car to the dealership and applied for another lease, but now for a 5-year period which is more comfortable for sure. I got a better salary with time as well which allowed me to get something better as well.

That period was a bit tight and also we needed the car since the cities in here are a bit difficult to keep using the public transport. Everyone has a car. Life is difficult without a car and during that period without a permanent visa in the Country was very difficult to apply for credit and loans. Now things changed and I can apply for more loans without any problems! But I admit that it was a very difficult contract length to maintain during those 2 years.

Eu sou um cara que nunca gostou de pedir coisas emprestadas de outras pessoas. Então eu nunca pedi o carro de ninguém. No Brasil, eu tive meu primeiro carro quando me casei, um pequeno Ford Fiesta que tinha um porta-malas muito pequeno. Para pais sem filhos, é incrível, e também comprar um carro no Brasil é muito caro. Quando cheguei no Canadá, eu tinha dinheiro para comprar diretamente alguns carros velhos usados, mas você também pode pegar um empréstimo no banco e financiar um carro novo/velho ou obter um leasing, que nada mais é do que um termo chique para um empréstimo de carro.

Comprei um carro super barato, um carro de 2012, o ano era 2017, eu tinha acabado de chegar no Canadá. Um Dodge Avenger, um carro sedan, que era confortável e a quilometragem era um pouco alta... mais de 90 mil km. Cerca de um ano após a compra, comecei a ter alguns problemas e um mecânico me disse que logo o motor iria quebrar e o conserto seria muito caro. Ele recomendou que eu comprasse um carro novo. Depois dessa experiência, decidi dar uma olhada em carros novos. Pensei que assim evitaria ir a oficinas para consertar a máquina, só tinha um problema! Minha autorização de trabalho era válida apenas por 2 anos e as finanças da concessionária estavam um pouco difíceis de obter, seja financiamento ou leasing, já que a maioria dos contratos tem pelo menos 3 anos de duração.

Então, na Toyota, encontrei o único negócio que se encaixava na minha vida. Leasing de 2 anos de duração. Para quem não sabe, a principal diferença entre leasing e financiamento é que no leasing você não é dono do carro. Na maioria das vezes, você paga mensalmente para usar um carro que não é seu, já que após o fim do contrato você tem que devolver o carro à concessionária ou pagar apenas o restante do saldo do preço total do carro, então, neste caso, ele se torna seu. Um Toyota Corolla não era ruim, um sedã era bom para uma família com um filho. Os pagamentos eram um pouco demais para nós na época, já que quanto menor o período de tempo, maiores os pagamentos.

Após 2 anos de sacrifícios e também fazendo alguns trabalhos extras, consegui pagar sem problemas durante o período de 2 anos. Depois disso, também consegui minha residência permanente, o que abriu as portas para empréstimos de prazo mais longo. Devolvi o carro à concessionária e solicitei outro leasing, mas agora por um período de 5 anos, o que é mais confortável, com certeza. Também consegui um salário melhor com o tempo, o que me permitiu conseguir algo melhor também.

Esse período foi um pouco apertado e também precisávamos do carro, já que as cidades aqui são um pouco difíceis de manter usando o transporte público. Todo mundo tem um carro. A vida é difícil sem um carro e durante esse período sem um visto permanente no país era muito difícil solicitar crédito e empréstimos. Agora as coisas mudaram e posso solicitar mais empréstimos sem problemas! Mas assumo que foi um período de contrato muito difícil de manter durante esse tempo.
