To reach this milestone, I must say — I used to swim a lot back in high school. I was a solid swimmer, even participating in regional, state, and national competitions.

I studied at a sports-oriented high school where practicing a discipline was mandatory. I grew up surrounded by athletes: karatekas, judokas, kempo fighters, chess players, runners, boxers, fencers, wrestlers, volleyball and basketball players. My sport was swimming.

After graduation, I stepped away from the sport for many years. From age 12 to 17, I was a high-performance swimmer. Sport became part of my identity. I love doing any kind of sport, but especially water-based ones.

When I moved to Valdivia, Chile, I had the opportunity to get back in the water. The pool is close by, and I’ve been swimming at least three times a week. That’s improved my sleep, strength, physique, and overall health.

Eventually, I joined a group of swimmers doing 2KM daily. I asked if I could join and they happily agreed — they saw I had swimming knowledge. Then I learned they were triathletes! That inspired me even more!

My progress went like this:
- 2 KM in 50 minutes
- Then 2 KM in 45 minutes
- And today: 3 KM in one hour!

I feel amazing. Technique stays with you, but endurance must be rebuilt. Swimming again reconnected me with a part of myself I missed. This sport builds both body and mind.

Para llegar hasta este acontecimiento, es importante recalcar que hace muchísimos años me dedicaba a practicar natación en mis tiempos de liceo. Era un gran nadador. Incluso participaba en competencias regionales, estadales y nacionales.

Estudié en un liceo deportivo, una unidad educativa de talentos deportivos donde era obligatorio practicar alguna disciplina para pertenecer. Estuve rodeado de atletas desde muy joven: karatekas, judokas, kempoístas, ajedrecistas, atletas, boxeadores, esgrimistas, luchadores, jugadores de voleibol, básquet, entre muchos otros. Mi disciplina fue la natación.

Luego de graduarme, abandoné el deporte por muchos años. Desde los 12 hasta los 17 fui un nadador de alto rendimiento. Así que el deporte quedó tatuado en mi identidad. Practicar cualquier deporte me encanta, pero especialmente los que son en el agua.

Al llegar a Valdivia, Chile, se me presentó la oportunidad de volver al agua. La piscina me queda cerca, y he estado yendo al menos tres veces por semana. Eso ha mejorado mi sueño, mi fuerza, mi complexión física y, por supuesto, mi salud.

Con el tiempo me integré a un grupo de personas que nadaban dos kilómetros diarios. Les pedí unirme y aceptaron encantados, ya que notaron que tenía técnica. Luego supe que eran triatletas, ¡y eso me motivó aún más!

Así comenzó mi progreso:
- 2 KM en 50 minutos
- Luego 2 KM en 45 minutos
- Y hoy: ¡3 KM en una hora!

Me siento genial. La técnica siempre se queda contigo, pero la resistencia hay que reconstruirla. Nadar nuevamente ha sido reconectar con una parte de mí que extrañaba. Este deporte fortalece cuerpo y mente.
