Prelude
Greeting to all, it is almost mid week and welcome back to another new post on Adapting to Modern. With the launch of the foundation card set, it is evident that these cards will somehow become part of the available cards that we can play during normal ranked battle and truly I use them in my ranked battles. And if I am not wrong, set can be rotated out, but foundation sets will stay in tact since they are supposed to be foundation.

For me, these cards have their value in help newcomers to strengthen the collection until they have sufficient DEC/SPS or other methods of capital injection to purchase main set packs or buy off the market for cards that can truly elevate their lineup. In this series, I will be deep diving into various foundation cards that we can obtain from playing frontier matches and opening foundation packs.

Foundation Set Cards

For the deep dive and analysis, I will be discussing about the growth of the cards and if they are able to synergize with modern cards to aid you in your ranked battles. This time round, assessment and recommendation will be within the card's own paragraph than having a segment on their own, so take note in the structural change in the post. Let's begin today's sharing.

Port Guardian

Let's begin looking at the foundation card, Port Guardian. This card will be the tank for the water splinter For the base stats, everything looks decent, speed, armour and health. Other than the high mana requirement for all foundation cards, I cannot pinpoint further bad attributes considering this is a common card. A shield would have made it way better but in general still a decent tank on foundation basis. With new Conclave Arcana rewards card and the ever domineering Commander Slade, it will be a little hard for this card to be used in normal ranked battles as those bring alot more value to the table.

Growth potential for this card is decent and being able to bring an additional melee attack at max level together with corrosive ward which will be good for tank card. The other tank related stats also scale relatively good. A good stand in if there are not other available tanks in your collection.

In terms of rating for this card, based on a score of 5, it will get about 2.5. While I do have god things to say about this card as a foundation card, but unfortunately, there are bigger boys in this category for water splinter. Unless you are lacking in tank for water splinter, this card likely will only remain in frontier battles.

Colossus Raider

Now we look at another card from Water splinter, Colossus Raider. For a 5 mana, I like it that it is already at 2 melee attack right from the start which will serve its purpose. However, when compared to others as they level up, this card will start to lose out the likes of Pirate of Eight at higher levels which can scale to 4 attack and even have blast. Otherwise, this card biggest headache is that at level 1, it has only 1 health which will be prone to opportunity cards of even get killed by blast.

In terms of growth for this card, surprisingly it has quite a decent scaling in terms of speed and health though not by a huge amount. By having more speed means it can hit earlier and more health means it can sustain longer. So not too bad in terms of growth.

In terms of rating for this card, it will take a rating of 2.3 out of 5. Decent but not fantastic considering how squishy this card is. Gives an edge at the start due to high melee attack but slowly dwindles as main set cards will take over with a much better growth potential and possibly way more abilities such as Pirate of Eight or even Surgeblade (charge instead of reach).

Wrap Up
Though some of the foundation cards need a little more mana, but when they come into the matches, they help to fill gaps in our collection that we are lacking. Make full use of them, synergize them with your other cards, make them viable and win matches so as to earn more glint as we continue building up our collection. Hopefully this series of post will help new players learn more about these cards and improve their gameplay in ranked battles.

Let's continue to grow and find path in modern ranked battles as we journey on playing Splinterlands.
