Up close with the turkey family

I recently had the opportunity to spot a family of turkey up close. Usually they keep a safe distance from me, but I was able to sneak up on them and get some pictures before they scurried away. In these pictures we can see what looks like a adult male and female, along with three babies. They are just going through the grass looking for something to eat, the adults just taking the babies for a walk.

The first picture I was able get focused and on the spot was of the female along with two babies in sight.

Seeing the young little birds run is always fun, they can really move.. and already fly at this point.

The mother is close behind.

She keeps looking back to make sure I am keeping my distance.

The two babies are not turning back, they are just running towards the closest woodline.

Eventually the babies get far enough away where they feel safe, and the mother and father stay close by keeping an eye on me.

It is really cool seeing both sexes next to each other. We can really see the difference in their plumage. The male has some blue colors to it, but the female is mostly just brownish grey.

They hang around for a bit, but eventually follow their babies into the forest.

I try to get closer, but I lose sight of them.. they are somewhere deep in that brush.

Well it was cool seeing them like that, up close is always really fun. This is the closest I have seen them. Doubt it gets much better than this for those wild birds.. they are not brave like the peacock is, more prone to running off when they see something..

maybe that is why they call them a bunch of turkeys.. lol
