My Mom was born in Fall River, Massachusetts. Her father was also born there, but his ethnic origin was Irish. His Mom and Dad were both from Ireland. When I was small, I remember thinking, did all Irish men look like him? Even the pictures in magazine advertisements for Irish whiskey showed a short man with a pot belly and a big red nose. That was my grandpa. I do not remember much about him, other than I knew he drank and there were elephant end tables and an elephant coffee table in his house. They must have belonged to his wife.

My Mom's Mother passed away in a house fire when my mom was a young girl. She was trying to get all her kids out of the house, and she and the baby lost their lives. Her parents were also from Ireland, and she was also born in Fall River.

Since my ethnic origin is Irish, I looked into getting Irish citizenship. But as it turns out, my grandparents would have to have been born there, not my great grandparents.
