Magandang buhay!

Waking up to a beautiful morning and as always, we are grateful for this chance to see the light of a new day and enjoy much of life and everything else🙏

Well, it's Friday so it's time to showcase some of my fungi finds. Yes, this gal hunts not only shadows and reflections but also magical things sprouting from the ground🍄🤓

For instance, the tiny beauties found a few days ago while we were on the dirt path going to the hillside. They come in different textures, shapes, sizes, and colors too! Some were in pairs, others in groups like families.

And a few seem to be partners but having an LQ they are near yet keeping some distance😅

It's fascinating to find them all at that particular spot on the path as if they were trying to form a kingdom (or a community if we can call it such).

For some reason, we didn't notice them last time or perhaps they just germinated this week. It rained a few times this month so it may have initiated their growth as the soil became moist.

I love this in particular, they are like a close-knit family :)

Are they edible?

I guess not! They are for the eyes only, meant to be appreciated, not to be consumed, lol! Unlike last time, we didn't touch or pick any of these. We would love to check them in the next few days to see what changes, especially after yesterday's rain.

While we have been taking pictures of mushrooms, we never really knew how they come about. Our quick search made us learn they are not plants but belong to a distinct kingdom known as fungi. Their lifecycle has the following main stages:

  • Mushroom Spores
  • Germination
  • Mycelium development (the main body of a mushroom)
  • Fruiting body formation

The spores are reproductive cells released into the air that germinate when favorable conditions occur and form thread-like structures (mycelium) which then grow and develop into the fruiting body (this is what we see above the ground).

Some more interesting information:

In ancient Greece and Rome, people considered mushrooms to be the food of the gods, and ancient Egyptians reserved them for pharaohs.¹

Mushrooms are considered nature's recyclers because they decompose organic material, break down pollutants, and improve soil health.²

Mushrooms are more closely related to animals than plants on the evolutionary tree.³

Well, this has been a learning adventure for us and we will be reading more about the wonders of fungi and may share them on our next hunt. Until then, have a fabulous day (night) wherever you may be.

This, by the way, is my contribution to FungiFriday by ewkaw. Thank you for this initiative and space.
