Turning Leftover Fabric into a Stunning Royal Blue Makeover

Hello, dear creative friends, I hope you are all having an amazing day. Glad to make it here today after finally completing my latest needlework project, adding colours and bubbles to a plain coloured dress.

This beautiful dress belongs to a friend who got a fabric gift on her birthday, lucky her. It's a plain royal blue crepe, but she wished it were a patterned fabric with more colours to it, "It is too plain," she said. Then I made her aware that nothing was impossible; all the fabric needed was a little touch of creativity. She also wanted the dress to be an A-line dress.

It's moments like this that having scraps of fabric or leftovers becomes very useful. What is usually termed as waste gets upcycled into something beautiful. Let's dive into the making process.
Materials used
Crepe fabric
pieces of ankara fabric
matching coloured thread
hemming gum

Cutting And Sewing Process

- I started by folding the fabric into four, it's about 2 and a half yards of the crepe fabric, then I drafted the A-line bodice pattern on it, cutting out the back neckline first, before separating the other to cut out the front neckline

- Then I cut out 7 different ankara fabrics square-shaped pieces, folded their corners, then placed them on the designated front part of the dress, first using a hemming gum, I ironed and held them in place before stitching them around

Continuing, I cut out facing for both the front and back neckline, then used them to turn them in neatly
Next, I joined the front and back of the dress at their shoulders
Since it's a kimono-shaped sleeve, I folded the sleeve hem

Using one of the ankara pieces, I cut out belts, which I joined to both sides of the waist area

Finally, I joined the sides and hemmed the dress neatly
And that completes the making process. The multicoloured leftover fabrics added more glamour to the dress, don't you think so as well? I'm glad my friend is happy with the final result as well.
