How You Are a Badass Changed My Mindset and Made Me Step Into My Power

Hey Hive family!
I’m honestly too excited to write this, because this book gave me serious main character energy. It’s called You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero. If you haven’t read it yet, trust me, you’re missing out on some serious magic.
Now, let me share how this book completely transformed my mindset.
Being a tall, chocolate-skinned girl who loves fashion, you’d think confidence just comes naturally, right? People see the clothes I wear, the pictures I post, and they assume I’m just full of self-assurance. But truthfully, it hasn’t always been that way. I’ve had my fair share of struggles with self-doubt, insecurities, and questioning my worth. That’s something people don’t always see behind the scenes.
You know those moments when you look in the mirror, feeling like you’ve done your best with your outfit, hair, and makeup, but then that little voice pops up, whispering, “Are you sure you’re enough?” or “Is this the best you can do?” Honestly, I absolutely hate that voice, but I’ve learned it’s something we all have to deal with from time to time.
I had no idea that one simple afternoon would change my perspective forever. I wasn’t even looking for anything deep that day. I was just following a friend in a bookshop when my eyes landed on a bright yellow book with the bold title: You Are a Badass. At first, I thought it was funny. Who could take a book with that title seriously, right? But something about it just caught my attention, so I picked it up.
That moment turned out to be one of the best spontaneous decisions I’ve made all year.
Reading You Are a Badass felt like talking to that one friend who hypes you up but also isn’t afraid to call you out when you’re slacking. Jen Sincero has this way of putting things that makes you feel like she’s speaking directly to you. One of the most important lessons I learned from the book is how fear, self-doubt, and all the excuses we make are just lies we tell ourselves to stay small.
One chapter that really hit me was about money mindset. As someone who’s passionate about fashion, I often felt guilty investing in myself, whether it was splurging on a new statement piece or even considering starting my own little fashion brand. I’d think, “Is it really worth it?” or “What if I’m just being too extra?” But Jen’s words completely changed the way I view abundance. She reminded me that success, beauty, wealth, and love are all my birthright, and I shouldn’t feel guilty about wanting the best for myself.
Before, I was so cautious about making big moves, always doubting if I truly deserved it. But after reading this book, I realized that if I don’t believe in my own potential first, how can I expect anyone else to? Now, whenever I go to an event, post a new fashion look, or pitch my ideas to potential brands, I tell myself, “You are a badass. Act like it.”
I know it might sound simple, but that shift in mindset has been everything. It’s given me the courage to approach opportunities I would have typically shied away from. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the fear of failure, I now step into situations with confidence, knowing that I am more than capable. And let me tell you, things have started to happen for me. Opportunities have opened up in ways I couldn’t have imagined before.
You Are a Badass isn’t just your typical motivational book that makes you feel good for a day and then you forget about it. No, this one sticks with you. It’s real, it’s funny, and most importantly, it pushes you to actually do the work and believe in your greatness.
So, if you’ve ever doubted yourself, questioned your worth, or felt like maybe you’re not doing enough, this book is exactly what you need. It will remind you of your own power and show you how to truly step into your full potential.
Thank you for reading, my loves! Let’s keep shining and showing up as the queens we are meant to be.
