Un día de visitando la capital cubana, rumbeaba por la amplia calle Galeano. Y tomando por el siempre transitado bulevar de San Rafael para acceder al Parque Central y luego internarme en la bulliciosa arteria de Obispo, me encontré de nuevo en la salida del afamado boulevard habanero con la increible escultura de bronce ubicada en el punto de intercepcion entre San Rafael y Prado custodiada por el lateral izquierdo por el legendario Hotel Inglaterra y por la derecha por el gran Teatro de la Habana, hoy teatro licia Alonso.

Ya antes había hecho unas fotos del conjunto escultorico, pero la luz no me acompaño para un mejor resultado. Pero esta vez era casi a punto de mediodía y el sol alumbraba muy fuerte desde el cenit, y definia muy bien las áreas de luces y sombras. Lo que posibilitaba disfrutar del volúmen del modelado.

A esta escultura la he nombrado "el beso de bronce" o "la Gorda voladora", y la considero una escultura metáforica porque reta la ley de la gravedad, pues el peso está invertido en la composición.

Tecnicamente es una excelente ejecucion de modelado llevada a la fundicion en bronce donde a pesar de la jocosidad, el realismo de las figuras denotan conocimiento y oficio en la mejor de las tradiciones escultoricas, donde movimiento y proporciones andan juntas y en armonía.

Lo que mas me atrae de esta imágen metálica es el humor que de ella se desprende al captar un momento irreal donde una muchacha que está bastante pasadita de peso, revolotea sobre la cabeza de un jóven de muy poca constitucion fisica y le deposita un beso en la boca.

A pesar de que la figura femenina se nota bastante pesada, el joven sin que se muestre mucho esfuerzo la sostiene con los brazos mientras ella apasionada ejecuta la acción y cumple su deseo amoroso .
Nunca había visto una gordita tan ligera!

En el pedestal traté de leer el nombre del autor que tan interesante obra nos ha regalado a todos los que pasamos por allí. Pero quedé confundido porque habia unos grafitis callejeros que me lo impedían. Un aporte al impacto social de la obra. Y como estaba de prisa no me e preocupe tanto por el autor, como por la obra.

Tambien sucede que ante esta escultura no podia estarme estatico pues del movimiento que emana tuve la necesidad de estarme moviendo constantemente lo que me permitió captar diferentes ángulos y los efectos de luces y sombra en el bronce.

Admiro mucho el iconográfico "beso de Rodi" por todo lo que de novedad y trascendencia estetica tuvo en su época, pero me quedo con ésta otra que de verdad hace que la analicemos desde diferentes puntos de vista y que habla del beso mas allá del propio beso.

Sinceramente, para mí esta escultura de la gordita voladora, es una de las mas interesantes de las esculturas que ambientan las calles habaneras como parte de la reanimacion del entorno citadino.

En el poco tiempo que estube observando y haciendo fotos fueron muchas las personas que posaron para hacerse instantaneas para que alguien perpetuara ese instante como recuerdo

One day while visiting the Cuban capital, I was strolling along the wide Calle Galeano. And taking the always busy San Rafael boulevard to access the Central Park and then entering the bustling Obispo artery, I found myself once again at the exit of the famous Havana boulevard with the incredible bronze sculpture located at the intersection of San Rafael and Prado, guarded on the left side by the legendary Hotel Inglaterra and on the right by the great Teatro de la Habana, today the Teatro Alicia Alonso.

I had already taken some photos of the sculptural ensemble, but the light did not help me to get a better result. But this time it was almost midday and the sun was shining very brightly from the zenith, defining the areas of light and shadow very well. This made it possible to enjoy the volume of the modelling.

I have called this sculpture ‘the bronze kiss’ or ‘the flying fat woman’, and I consider it a metaphorical sculpture because it challenges the law of gravity, as the weight is inverted in the composition.

Technically it is an excellent execution of modelling in bronze casting where, in spite of the jocularity, the realism of the figures denotes knowledge and craft in the best of sculptural traditions, where movement and proportions go together in harmony.

What attracts me most in this metallic image is the humour that emerges from it, capturing an unreal moment where a girl, who is rather overweight, flutters over the head of a young man of very little physical constitution and deposits a kiss on his mouth.

Despite the fact that the female figure looks rather heavy, the young man holds her with his arms without showing much effort while she passionately performs the action and fulfils his amorous desire.
I have never seen a chubby girl so light!

On the pedestal I tried to read the name of the author who has given such an interesting work to all of us who passed by. But I was confused because there was some street graffiti that prevented me from doing so. A contribution to the social impact of the work. And as I was in a hurry, I didn't worry so much about the author as about the work.

It also happens that in front of this sculpture I could not remain static because of the movement it emanates I had the need to be constantly moving, which allowed me to capture different angles and the effects of light and shadow on the bronze.

I admire very much the iconographic ‘kiss of Rodi’ for all the novelty and aesthetic transcendence it had in its time, but I prefer this other one that really makes us analyse it from different points of view and that speaks of the kiss beyond the kiss itself.

Sincerely, for me this sculpture of the flying fat girl is one of the most interesting of the sculptures that decorate the streets of Havana as part of the reanimation of the city environment.

In the short time that I was observing and taking photos, there were many people who posed to take snapshots so that someone would perpetuate that moment as a memory.
