(This is my English version for this post. Yesterday I did it in Spanish: Mi viaje de meditación-primeras semanas, I didn't have time to do the English version till now).

My Meditation Journey: First Weeks and What I Visualize on a Future Horizon

A few weeks ago, I started meditating daily for 5 minutes (a post from the first week - English version: Mindful starts: kicking off March).
What began as a simple experiment is turning into a practice that raises questions and intrigues me more and more. I want to share my experience for those, like me, who are taking their first steps on this path.

My Initial Observations

• I discovered that 5 minutes is the ideal time to start - I tried 9 minutes, but I felt that returning to 5 was the right choice for now.
• Each session is unique: some days the mind is calm, other days it’s harder to focus, and there may even be days when it’s a whirlwind of thoughts.
• As indicated in the guide I am using, I have mainly focused on my breathing, noticing how the air enters and exits naturally. Interestingly, when I listen to the guide and it says to observe my breath, each day is different, and I notice a predominance of breath depending on how I feel with any discomfort. For example, when I have a headache, I visualize the air concentrating in parts of my head or brain; when my leg hurts a bit, I visualize the concentration of the air that my body breathes is in the leg... Sometimes it fluctuates from one place to another.
• Occasionally, my mind creates spontaneous images - one day I visualized the air as a protective shield against distracting thoughts. I liked that image because it helped me focus better on my breath; it was as if the entire edge of my body created a small protective fabric with the air at the edge of my body. So, I could see a shield protecting me from a bunch of arrows that were the invasive 'thoughts.'

It was a very unique and spontaneous feeling. In my view, each session is unique. The same things do not repeat.

What I Hope to Develop in the Coming Months

In 1-2 Months: (By May-June 2025)
I think it's essential to consolidate my daily practice of 5 minutes by establishing a consistent schedule. Although the video guide recommends doing it several times at any hour of the day, it seems that developing a consistent schedule is more fruitful.
Another key element is to continue with the simple focus on breathing, developing familiarity with returning when the mind wanders.

In 3-4 Months (July/August 2025): A second phase of my meditation could be to add a few minutes: gradually experimenting with sessions of 7-8 minutes. Incorporating a brief body scan before focusing on breathing. Learning to relate more balancedly to the imagination that arises spontaneously. I believe this could provide me with a lot of ideas I wouldn’t even expect.

In 5-6 Months (September-October 2025):
Possibly expanding to 10 minutes, keeping consistency as a priority. Starting to notice patterns in my mind: when is my mind more agitated? What moments of the day are more conducive to mental clarity? How does it influence my activities?

The Unexpected Power of a Fixed Schedule

What I observed in the first three weeks is the impact of meditating at the same time every day, and I found it more satisfying to meditate in the mornings. Then some weeks I have meditated at different times, around noon and even late in the day. Now I am returning to the morning schedule to start the day with this activity. At first, it seemed like a trivial detail, but I’ve noticed that my mind seems to "prepare" instinctively when the time approaches. The resistances have also significantly decreased.
I can say it’s becoming a ritual that my body and mind naturally anticipate.
Comparing, the days I meditate in the morning have a different flow than when I do it in the afternoon.

A Personal Reflection

This practice is teaching me that consistency outweighs intensity. Five minutes daily have had more impact than sporadic longer sessions I’ve tried. I’m also learning to be gentle with my wandering mind - every time I notice a distraction and return, I’m strengthening a mental muscle.

I don’t know exactly where this path will lead me, but I’m enjoying the process of daily discovery. Sometimes the practice is refreshing, other times it’s restless, but it always leaves me with a subtle feeling of having done something valuable for my mental well-being.

Is anyone else starting their meditation journey? Or do you have tips for beginners like me? I’d love to hear your experiences.
