Warhammer 40k - Detachment Review 12 - Chaos Knights, Iconoclast Fiefdom
5 comments
Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - Datasheet Review post!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit in the game of Warhammer 40,000
The last of the Indexes! A new challenge!
Right, I am finally ahead and by my best estimations as I explained in this Post, I should be able to keep ahead of the release curve and get the remainder of the Indexes reviewed before those Codex releases.
So I embark on a new challenge. I have calculated that there are roughly 148 reviews to do. I have chosen my frequency and have given myself 96 days to review them all. That means that I am aiming at Day 96 being the 21st of July 2025!
Today is Day 6/96.
I have reviewed 9/148.
Time elapsed: 6.25%
Review Completion: 6.08%
A sliver under par!
Hobby Fund - Working myself into the clear
With my hobby posts, I generate a hobby fund. 50% of the income goes into the fund. At the moment I put all my HBD earned from Warhammer posts into my alt account @zakl.hobbyfund.
I am collecting funds in the following ways:
- Blogging about Warhammer to earn HBD
- Accepting donations - Can be sent directly to @zakl.hobbyfund in HBD
- Selling some of the collection to friends.
At the current count I am paying off some hobby debts. I still have $245 to pay off!
Every bit counts!
Back to the review!
Army Rule Recap
In the Chaos Knights Army, they have the Harbingers of Dread where you make it easier for the enemy to fail leadership tests and you get buffs when the enemy is Battle Shocked.
Detachment Rules
Wretched Thralls
You can include Damned units from Codex: Chaos Space Marines. The combined cost of such units depends on the battle size:
Incursion: Up to 250pts
Strike Force: Up to 500pts
Onslaught: Up to 750pts
No Damned unit may be your Warlord.
Dreaded Masters
Titanic Chaos Knight units from your army have the following rules:
Dread Tyrants (Aura): While friendly Damned units are within 9" of this unit, each time a model in that unit makes an attack, re-roll Hit and Wound rolls of 1.
Chaos Knights units from your army have the following abilities:
Dark Sacrifice: Each time a Chaos Knight unit makes a ranged or melee attack, it can make a Dark Sacrifice. Select a Damned unit within 6" of this model. That unit must make a Leadership test. If the test is passed, D3 models in that unit are destroyed. If the test is failed D3+3 models are destroyed instead.
In either case, you can select one of the following abilities for your Chaos Knight's Weapons to have: Sustained Hits 1 or Lethal Hits.
Thoughts
Win or lose on that Leadership test, some Cultists die and your Chaos Knight becomes empowered! Sustained Hits will give you more attacks and Lethal Hits make attacks go through as auto wounds!
These buff are nothing to snort at and to feed your Knights little Cultists is a proper Chaos thing to do!
Enhancements
Every Detachment has their own Enhancements to put on Characters. You cannot put 2 Enhancements on 1 hero, Epic Heros cannot take them either and you are limited to 3 of the 4.
Here are the Enhancements for the Iconoclast Fiefdom:
Profane Altar - 20pts
Chaos Knights model only. When this model makes a Dark Sacrifice, always sacrifice the maximum number of models (So 3 if the Leadership test is passed and 6 if the test is failed!) This model gains both Lethal Hits and Sustained hits until the end of the phase.
This is crazy good! I would expect it to be used on a ranged firepower specialist to its best effect, along with a squad or two of cultists to feed it.
Pave the Way - 15pts
Chaos Knights only. You can select up to three Damned units in your army to get the Scouts 6" Ability.
Scouts give them a pre-game movement of 6" that can take them into No Man's Land. This makes them reach further ahead into the battle field which can be followed up on by much swifter Knights!
Tyrant's Banner - 5pts
This Enhancement allows the Dark Sacrifice to be made by a unit visible to the Knight instead of being within 6".
Only 5 points for this Enhancement and it is quite good! Being able to make sacrifices from across the board... Knights are massive. Line of sight is generally not too difficult!
Diabolical Resilience - 35pts
This model gets a 6+ Feel no pain and it can ignore any or all modifiers to Movement, Advance rolls and the Charge Rolls.
There are quite a few armies that have abilities that can slow your Knights down. This Enhancement breaks through all of that.
What makes me think that this would be best on a Knight Rampager? Hehe.
Stratagems
Stratagems are used in the battle as an elective rule that can be employed in crucial moments. All armies have access to Universal Stratagems but each Detachment has their very own Stratagems that they can use.
This is what the Iconoclast Fiefdom can do.
Avenge the Masters! - 1CP
Use this Stratagem once the enemy kills one of your knights. From then onwards, that enemy unit is "Marked". Until the end of the game, whenever one of the Damned units attack the Marked enemy unit, they get the Lethal Hits ability.
This is pretty good when you have enough Damned units in that area of the board when you decide to use this Strat. It will not really matter too much when used against an enemy shooting from across the board.
Wretched Masses - 2CP
Used in any Phase when an Damned unit has been destroyed. This cannot be used on Accursed Cultists.
Put a unit identical to the unit that was just destroyed into Reserves. This cannot ressurect Characters and it can only be used once per game.
This is great since you tend to eat your own cultists. Being able to bring another unit back to feed on them again!
Soul Hunger - 1CP
Used in the Fight Phase right after a Chaos Knight has attacked. If enemy models were destroyed as a result of the Knight's attacks it can regain up to D3 lost wounds. If the enemy unit is Battle Shocked then it becomes D3+2 Wounds regained.
Amazing Strat enabling your Melee Knights to regain wounds by doing what they are good at: Killing things!
Unrestrained Rage- 1CP
Used in the Movement Phase right after a Knight has completed an Advance or Fallback move.
This model can Shoot and Charge in the turn that it Fall Back or Advances.
Such a simple and yet such a powerful move allowing a Knight to sprint across the battlefield!
Worthless Chattel- 1CP
Used in your shooting phase to fire on an enemy unit that is in Engagement Range of an Damned unit. Now all units from your army, can fire at that enemy.
For every unsaved wound caused to them, roll a dice, on a 4+ one model in the Damned unit is Destroyed.
It is a pretty hash payoff, but it means tying people up in combat against Cultists and then blowing them away with the Knights.
Preserve the Idols. - 1CP
Used in your opponent's Movement Phase after the enemy has made a move, this ability to move one unit of Damned unit into position - this means putting the unit as close as possible to the enemy.
Conclusion
The Iconoclast Fiefdom looks really strong and somewhat difficult to read, Dark Sacrifice on he units make their Knights more knight's.
Thank you for reading this post!
