Warhammer 40k - Army Rule Review 9 - Imperial Knights Index - Code Chivalric
9 comments
Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - Datasheet Review post!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit in the game of Warhammer 40,000
The last of the Indexes! A new challenge!
Right, I am finally ahead and by my best estimations as I explained in this Post, I should be able to keep ahead of the release curve and get the remainder of the Indexes reviewed before those Codex releases.
So I embark on a new challenge. I have calculated that there are roughly 148 reviews to do. I have chosen my frequency and have given myself 96 days to review them all. That means that I am aiming at Day 96 being the 21st of July 2025!
Today is Day 11/96.
I have reviewed 17/148.
Time elapsed: 11.45%
Review Completion: 11.48%
On Par!
Hobby Fund - Working myself into the clear
With my hobby posts, I generate a hobby fund. 50% of the income goes into the fund. At the moment I put all my HBD earned from Warhammer posts into my alt account @zakl.hobbyfund.
I am collecting funds in the following ways:
- Blogging about Warhammer to earn HBD
- Accepting donations - Can be sent directly to @zakl.hobbyfund in HBD
- Selling some of the collection to friends.
At the current count I am paying off some hobby debts. I still have $245 to pay off!
Every bit counts!
Back to the review!
Who are the Imperial Knights?
The Imperial Knights epitomize Honor and Duty! They are what happens when you have Noble Houses in the 41st Millennium, raised on a sense of honour and religious devotion to the Emperor that it is their family's sworn duty to protect the Realm.
Throw this concept into a setting where a warhorse and plate armour just won't do, the development of the Knight warmachines predate the establishment of the Imperium of Man. It is likely that there were some form of Knight exoframe warmachine built during the pre-history before the Great Crusade and Unification Wars. Perhaps these warriors were discovered on some planet, perhaps the technology for their construction was discovered.
However they came to be, when space-nobility have a duty and are honour bound to protect and to destroy the enemies of the Imperium, they focus on the larger scale.
They wish to defend Cities, Continents and Planets. They focus on destroying the enemy command, to wipe out the best and largest adversaries on the battlefield.
In the tabletop you might play them on their own, but in the theatre of war those only represent a small engagement. In the true sense of the fictional universe, when a Knight House comes to a world to do battle, it is generally to aid others. Where millions of Guardsmen and thousands of other troops are already in a pitched battle, the Imperial Knights may launch a Drop-Keep - a massive fortress drop pod that contains an entire Lance of Imperial Knights, complete with its own void shields and armaments. The Knights sally forth from the gates and bring shock and awe!
Army Rule - Code Chivalric
10th Edition Index
The Code Chivalric is the main rule of the Imperial Knights that allows them to function as an army. There are also rules on Bondman Abilities from the larger Knights to the Armigers, but I have included that on the Datasheet reviews. There is also a rule for including 1 Titanic Knight or up to 3 Armigers in another Imperial army. And there is a rule for the moment of Super-Heavy Walkers.
Right now. We focus on the rule that sets the main flavour of this faction: The Code Chivalric!
At the start of the Battle, when the Mission Objectives are being decided on, you select one Oath. This Oath will grant your army a bonus. Each Oath also has an attached Deed. Should you start a turn and the Deed has been completed, then your army becomes Honoured for the rest of the battle and you gain 3CP (Command Points).
Lay Low the Tyrant
Oath Ability - Each time a model in your army is selected to shoot or fight they can re-roll one Hit roll and re-roll one Wound roll.
Deed - This Deed is completed if the enemy Warlord is destroyed.
Reclaim the Realm
Oath Ability - Add 1" to the Movement and add 1" to Advance and Charge rolls made by models in your army.
Deed - This Deed is completed should you control an objective in your opponent's deployment zone.
Thoughts
I have only ever seen anyone play Lay Low the Tyrant. I think that this is because most people play Imperial Knights for their insane firepower and increasing their accuracy and follow through would make them kill more things.
Also, you need to only look at what is the enemy Warlord and blow that unit sky-high with all your firepower.
Meanwhile charging a unit across the battlefield and still owning the objective in the opponent's deployement zone is risky and full of peril. Unless you focus completely on that and ignore all other mission parameters it becomes impossible to complete.
But perhaps the extra movement will come in handy if someone should play an all-out Close Combat Army of Knights... Is that 3 Knight Gallants and 6x Armiger Warglaives? Hahahaha!
But then... there are still Detachment bonuses and Enhancements to consider! Check the next 2 posts!
