The projects that I most enjoy doing are those that I call "Utilitarian", which are generally easy and also quick to do, and their objective is to improve or make more comfortable some aspect of our daily lives, and always married to the aesthetic.

Today's project is a Credential Holder, or card holder, to carry with us the minimum necessary, such as credentials and credit or debit cards. To make it more functional, it will have a small tab or handle where you can place a keychain accessory or hang it on your bag. Another advantage of this project is that we can do it with just a few scraps of fabric, and the pattern is on me, I'm going to give it to you so you can do it with the exact measurements... Welcome.

Los proyectos que más disfruto realizar son aquellos a los que denomino "Utilitarios", que generalmente son fáciles y también rápidos de hacer, y su objetivo es mejorar o hacer más cómodo algún aspecto de nuestra cotidianidad, y siempre casados con lo estético.

El proyecto de hoy es un Porta credenciales, o porta tarjetas, para llevar con nosotras el mínimo necesario, como lo son las credenciales y tarjetas de crédito o débito. Para hacerlo más funcional, tendrá una pequeña pestaña o asa donde se puede colocar un accesorio para llavero o para colgarlo en nuestro bolso. Otra ventaja de este proyecto es que lo podemos realizar con apenas unos retazos de tela, y el patrón va por mi cuenta, te lo voy a regalar para que puedas hacerlo con las medidas exactas... Diy and Gift Pattern: Design Structure

As I told you, I want to give you the exclusive pattern for this Credential Holder. Its main advantage is that it consists of a single piece, which greatly simplifies the cutting and sewing process, making it ideal for beginners.

Although at first glance it seems simple, the pattern has an interesting engineering, since it is not completely symmetrical. It is designed with a central body that serves as a base and closing flap, integrated with two side tabs (one thinner than the other). These strips are calculated to fold towards the center, thus creating the exact compartments to safely store your cards or IDs.

This "all-in-one" structure allows you, with very few seams, to obtain a resistant, functional accessory with a professional finish.

Diy y Patrón de Regalo: Estructura del Diseño

Como les adelanté, quiero obsequiarles el patrón exclusivo para este Porta Credenciales. Su principal ventaja es que consta de una sola pieza, lo que simplifica enormemente el proceso de corte y confección, haciéndolo ideal para principiantes.

Aunque a simple vista parece sencillo, el patrón tiene una ingeniería interesante, ya que no es totalmente simétrico. Está diseñado con un cuerpo central que cumple la función de base y solapa de cierre, integrado con dos pestañas laterales (una más delgada que la otra). Estas tiras están calculadas para doblarse hacia el centro, creando así los compartimientos exactos para resguardar tus tarjetas o identificaciones de forma segura.

Esta estructura "todo en uno" permite que, con muy pocas costuras, obtengas un accesorio resistente, funcional y con un acabado profesional.

Preparation of Parts

Cutting the base: Copy and cut pattern on the back of the semi-leather. This will be the external part.
Cutting the lining: Copy and cut the pattern (mirrored) on the back of the printed fabric to make the internal lining.
Initial assembly: Place both pieces right sides together (front to front) and secure using pressure clips, which is more appropriate than pins, to avoid piercing the synthetic material.

Preparación de las Piezas

* Corte de la base: Copiar y cortar patrón sobre el revés del semi-cuero. Esto será la parte externa.

* Corte del forro: Copiar y cortar el patrón (en espejo) sobre el revés de la tela estampada para confeccionar el forro interno.

* Ensamblado inicial: Colocar ambas piezas con los derechos enfrentados (frente con frente) y asegurar utilizando clips de presión, que es más apropiado que alfileres, para evitar perforar el material sintético.

Clothing

Cut a rectangle of the semi-leather of approximately 4 cm, to be the loop that will hold the key ring. Insert it into the thinner end of the previously prepared pieces and secure.
Sew with a straight seam all around, leaving a space of approximately 6 cm free of seams, where the piece will be turned.
Cut off excess fabric, and clean the corners to make turning easier.

Confección
* Corta un rectángulo del semi-cuero de 4 cms aproximadamente, para que sea la trabilla que portará el aro del llavero. Introdúcela en el extremo más delgado de las piezas preparadas anteriormente y asegura.
* Cose con costura recta por todo el alrededor, dejando libre de costura un espacio de 6 cms aproximadamente, por donde se volteará la pieza.  
* Corta los excedente de tela, y limpiar las esquinas para facilitar al voltear.

Turn and nod

Turn the project right side out through the opening. Push the angles well with a blunt tool and seat the seams with a little pressure.
Fold and bring the thickest side strip towards the center.
Fold and bring the thinnest strip towards the center.
Secure everything with snap clips.

Voltea y asienta

* Da la vuelta al proyecto hacia el derecho a través de la abertura. Empuja bien los ángulos con una herramienta sin punta y asienta las costuras aplicando un poco de presión.
* Doblar y llevar hacia el centro, la tira lateral más gruesa.
* Doblar y llevar hacia el centro, la tira más delgada.
* Asegurar todo con clips de presión.

Do the stitching

Make a decorative seam or stitch very close to the edge around the entire perimeter. With this step, close the initial opening and give the credential holder a firm and professional structure.

Realiza el pespunte 

* Efectúa una costura decorativa o pespunte muy cerca del borde por todo el perímetro. Con este paso cierra la abertura inicial y dale una estructura firme y profesional al Porta credencial.

Final Finishes and Hardware

Install the brooch: Mark the exact position on the flap and base. Attach the snap, making sure both sides match up perfectly for a secure closure.
Apply pressure with the corresponding pliers or tool.

Acabados Finales y Herrajes

* Instala el broche: Marca la posición exacta en la solapa y la base. Coloca el broche de presión (snap) asegurándote de que ambos lados coincidan perfectamente para un cierre seguro.

* Hacer presión con el alicate o herramienta correspondiente.

Integrate the keychain: Insert the ring into the semi-leather loop.

* Integra el llavero: Introduce la argolla en la trabilla de semi-cuero.

Just as I had described to you, this "Utilitarian" project was just one piece, easy and quick to make. The contrast of the printed fabric and the vibrant blue color add a lot to the design.

So if you decide to carry out this project, take into account using fabrics, colors and prints that make this credential holder stand out. In the following photos you can see the two compartments or pockets, which look very good, this is important because the projects must look good from any angle.

Tal como te había descrito este proyecto "Utilitario" fue solo una pieza, fácil y rápido de confeccionar. El contraste de la tela estampada y el vibrante color azul, le aportan muchísimo al diseño.

Así que si te decides a realizar este proyecto, toma en cuenta manejar telas, colores y estampados que hagan resaltar este Porta credencial. En las siguientes fotos pueden apreciar  los dos compartimientos o bolsillos, que lucen muy bien, esto es importante porque los proyectos deben verse bien desde cualquier ángulo.

When I positioned the pieces to go through the final assembly seam, I wanted to always show an edge of the printed fabric inside. It is a small gesture that can give more interest to the design.

Cuando ubiqué las piezas para pasar la costura de ensamblaje final, quise que se notar siempre un borde de la tela estampada del interior. Es un pequeño gesto, que puede darle más interés al diseño.

I highly recommend this Credential Holder design, both for your personal use, for entrepreneurship, as a gift, as a souvenir, etc. And you can vary it with many combinations.

Te recomiendo mucho este diseño de Porta Credencial, tanto para tu uso personal, como para emprendimiento, para obsequiar, para souvenir, etc. Y lo puedes varias con muchísimas combinaciones.
