We all start from zero

We look at successful people. We always have. Since childhood, we look to those around us, and at that point in our lives, to our closest role models, who are our parents.
Everything they do ends up being our benchmark. And we have them as our role models. The way they dress, the way they eat, the way they sit at the table, and even the way they treat other people and ourselves.
Conveniently, we learn from them. Fortunately, most parents are able to give their children a quality education. We shouldn't depend on an external education system as the one and only that should “educate” our children.
School serves not to educate, but to teach how to learn.
It shouldn't be a warehouse for children in the care of a group of teachers and educational assistants, without other structures to ground them in the laws of life.
There is much more to life than the rules we are asked to follow in a school, or in any institution we pass through in the course of our lives. In fact, I even think that sometimes there are rules that are so basic and fundamental that they don't even need to be written down or written on a notice!
There's one that's completely ridiculous, but it's all over so many classrooms, shared rooms and even toilets: “Leave the place as you'd like to find it”. Don't you agree that this rule doesn't even need to be written down?
Well, back to the initial subject of my daily reflection. We all start from scratch. Our upbringing and the constraints of our environment will condition much of what we achieve or what we do throughout our lives, but what is certain is that we all start from the same point. We all had to learn to walk, to listen and to respect. There are no geniuses at the start.
The best player in the NBA had to learn from scratch, just like anyone else. He only became the player he is because he didn't give up. He decided to repeat that running progression to the basket over and over again. He decided to repeat that shot from the three-point line over and over again... And no matter how many times I failed and didn't get what I expected, I kept training. And even if he managed to repeat what he was practicing flawlessly, he didn't stop practicing it just because he thought he was the best, or because he thought he was invincible. None of that.
The trick is to bet on something you enjoy doing. And even if you're not the best at it, you enjoy doing it. Later on, we'll be able to reap the rewards of our commitment and passion.
But we all come from nothing... And to nothing we will go.
I hope you enjoyed my little daily reflection.
