In Splinterlands, every battle starts with a summoner, and understanding them is key to building a winning strategy. Summoners are the cards that lead your team, influencing not only which cards you can use but also how effective your team will be.

What Summoners Do

  1. Boost Stats: Most summoners increase certain stats for monsters of their splinter—attack, health, or speed. This small advantage can turn close battles in your favor.
  2. Grant Abilities: Some summoners give your monsters special abilities like Flying, Shield, or Snipe. These abilities can counter your opponent’s strategy.
  3. Define Splinter Use: You can only use monsters of the same splinter as your summoner (with some exceptions for neutral cards). Choosing the right summoner means choosing your entire team’s identity.

Choosing Summoners Wisely

Beginners often pick the summoner with the highest level or the flashiest art. Instead, focus on battle utility. Look at:

  • Ability boosts
  • Mana cost
  • Compatibility with your strongest monsters

For example, if your deck has low-health magic attackers, a summoner who boosts Magic attack and Speed can maximize their effectiveness.

Strategic Tip

Never underestimate the value of neutral summoners. They allow mixed splinter teams and can give you flexibility in challenging rule sets.

Summoners are leaders and strategic anchors. A great summoner can make even an average set of monsters competitive, while a poor choice can nullify your strongest cards.

If you are a beginner, always pick the summoner that amplifies your deck’s strength for the upcoming battle. Think of them as your team captain. It is not the strongest player, it is the one who leads best.
