A Necessary Introduction

Once again, I sit down to write about one of the initiatives proposed by @galenkp, and although I would have liked to participate in topic 3, about punches given and received, the lack of photographs limited me from being able to express some of these life stories that show that we are far from perfect.

Despite the above, I want to address elements of topic 2 that I also really like because I can talk about facets that have shaped my life, and although I'm not excellent at these activities, I've strived to be so.

In Search of Brilliance

We often give ourselves more value than we really have, and at other times, we undervalue ourselves, out of false modesty and to look bad in the eyes of others. I confess that I've been that kind of person my entire life and have often rejected recognition because of what others will say about me.

Today I want to make an exception.

When, in one of the topics, @galenkp called on us to say what we're brilliant at, I thought I didn't have that quality. But, upon reading a piece at

, I decided that yes, I can be a brilliant person in some ways.

In one of the sections, Noelia López Cheda tells us that: Brilliant is someone who is able to listen and understand others to get them to cooperate. Brilliant is someone who brings beauty to everyday life and creates positive things from simplicity.

Based on the above, I consider my greatest brilliance to have been in teaching, teaching for 30 years and educating children, adolescents, and young adults.

And, I have been a brilliant person because:

I have inspired many who have gone on to become teachers.

I have played an important role in the education and development of thousands of young people in my country.

I have represented my schools, my province, and my country at national and international events, where I have shared the key achievements of my colleagues.

I have been able to be a part of the lives of many families who have given me the love of their homes and their children.

I must be brilliant because many of the students I had still call me "father," and I was never able to have children. This is what makes me most proud because of what it represents in my life.

But what has given my passion as a teacher the most shine is the possibility that many of my students are now good people, and I have seen them become teachers, doctors, technicians, engineers, and workers, and have managed to form families based on the principles we raised them in.

Another activity in which I consider myself brilliant is cooking.

This is a tribute to my mother because it was one of the things she was truly brilliant at, and from watching her so much—making dishes, combining foods, and making people happy—I fell in love with this activity, and I must say I'm not bad at it.

I consider myself brilliant, or on the way to becoming so, because:

· I've felt the satisfaction of cooking at parties, birthdays, and homes, and people have always praised my cooking.

· Another aspect that makes me hold this opinion is because my wife is pleased with the food I cook and never tires of praising it, despite being married for almost 30 years.

· Because of the satisfaction I feel when we have guests at home and they ask me to cook.

· Because of the good times and happiness I bring to others when I dedicate myself to combining dishes.

A final comment

I don't want to sound self-sufficient or pretend to be better at these activities. In fact, I tried to express my ideas and be consistent with the work I used as an example to see whether or not I could be a brilliant person.

As I like to say, we all have a hidden seed; what we need to do is discover it and nurture it in the best possible way, and when we do, we shine with our own light.

Thank you for reading, and I recommend you search within yourself and you'll see that, in some areas of life, you too are a brilliant person.

What do you think?
