Jazzing on a Sunday afternoon

Yesterday our little jazz group got together again at London Road Studios in Baldock. It has been a while since we did this, but we meet up at some pub jam sessions. The studio time is when we can work a little deeper on some tunes.

The band is me on drums, @daniellemurray on clarinet, @purplesinger on piano and Bob (no Hive yet) on flute. Unfortunately our potential bass player has not been able to join in yet due to illness.

We have the room for 3 hours and these are just a few of the tunes we played. You will hear extracts of The Man I Love, Misty and Night & Day. I was playing a mix of brushes and sticks. I have not been playing much jazz drums lately as I work on some Drumeo courses and I am also doing a bass course. Luckily I seem to have retained some of the necessary skills, but I could do with more practice in this area if we ever get some gigs. For now it is just for fun and we play at some open mics with friends. There is the potential for some local festivals, but that may be in a different form. Danielle and I may even revive @swing47.

It was good fun and the time flew by. I've had a bad back recently, but that did not trouble me and my dodgy hand was okay too. Music is a cure! I was using the studio kit with my snare and cymbals. The new skin on the snare helped with the brushes.

I may post up some bass playing soon, but I am very much a beginner at that. I play because I enjoy it.
