Shadow of Sell || Mistborn #5 By Brandon Sanderson// Book Review

Greetings to all the book lovers in this community! I am already a huge fan of Brandon Sanderson. After reading the first Mistborn era at the beginning of the year, I knew it was a one-way trip, and that I should enjoy the journey. This time, I'm here with the second book of the second Mistborn era, a fantasy, and steampunk saga that is quite interesting.

Después de leerme la primera era de Mistborn a principios de año, ya sabía que era un viaje de ida, y que también debía disfrutar del viaje. En esta ocasión, vengo con el segundo libro de la segunda era de Mistborn, una saga de fantasía y Steampunk que está bastante interesante.

This is the sequel to Alloy of Law. It recounts the adventures of Wax, Wayne, and Marasi, along with a series of new and interesting characters who bring the plot to life. This book, more so than the first, focuses on characters known from the first era, which took place 200 years earlier. On this occasion, unlike the first book in which Mistborn could only be alomancers, this time they can be alomancers and feruchemy practitioners at the same time. This means they can consume the metal associated with their power, which is what it means to be an alomancer. And store the property associated with feruchemy in bracelets. In Wax's case, he stores strength, and Wayne stores health.

In addition, the Steampunk element has more to do with aesthetics and cowboy stories associated with rather appealing rudimentary technology. Our protagonists are constables who protect the streets of Elendel from the danger of criminals and outlaws, in this case a criminal they do not know, and try to protect the unpopular governor from a growing threat. Wax does whatever he wants as the embodiment of the antihero.

Although this saga is not my favorite, and is one of the writer's lightest, it still has a consistent world-building and a convoluted plot that extols the struggle between powers and social classes and discusses the abuse of power. It has never ceased to be political stories, but in this case, it also mixes adventure, with mysteries to solve and shootouts with guns and rather interesting devices.

Esta es la continuación de Aleación de Ley. Relata las aventuras de Wax, Wayne y Marasi, y una serie de nuevos e interesantes personajes que le dan vida a la trama. Este libro, más que en el primero, le dan más enfoque a personajes conocidos de la primera era, ocurrida 200 años antes. En esta ocasión, y a diferencia del primero en que los Nacidos de la Bruma podían ser solo alománticos, en esta oportunidad pueden ser alománticos y ferruquimistas al mismo tiempo, es decir, pueden consumir el metal asociado a su poder, que es lo que significa ser alomante. Y almacenar la propiedad asociada a la ferruquimia en unos brazales. En el caso de Wax, almacena fuerza y Wayne almacena salud.

Además, el elemento Steampunk tiene más que ver con la estética y las historias vaqueras asociadas con una tecnología rudimentaria bastante atrayente. Nuestros protagonistas son alguaciles que protegen las calles de Elendel del peligro de los criminales y forajidos, en este caso de un criminal al que no conocen, e intentan proteger al gobernador, nada popular, de una amenaza creciente, mientras Wax hace lo que se le viene en gana como toda la representación del antihéroe.

Aunque esta saga no está siendo mi favorita, y es una de las más ligeras del escritor, sigue teniendo una consistente creación de mundo y una trama enrevesada que enaltece a la lucha de poderes, de clases sociales, discute acerca de los abusos de poder. No ha dejado de ser, nunca, historias políticas, pero en este caso, mezcla también la aventura, con misterios que resolver y tiroteos con pistolas y dispositivos bastante interesantes.

One of the central themes that will always characterize Sanderson is that of deities and the construction and relationship of the gods with the rest of the world. He always sensitizes them and shows and portrays them in a human, critical, and neutral way. Based on his narrative, it is evident that the author is a man of faith. Personally, I really like how he deals with the subject and the construction of religions. In this book in particular, there are two religions coexisting, both of which were born after the events of the first era.

For this and more, Brandon Sanderson has climbed to the top three of my favorite authors of all time. However, this is not my favorite book; it is very light and did not keep me glued to it as it usually does. It works well for relaxing between heavier literature. To enjoy it more, you should read Era One, because it provides context. For now, I'm going to put the saga on hold until I'm ready to reread The Stormlight Archive in its entirety. This way, I'll follow the reading order suggested by the author.

Y uno de los temas centrales y que siempre van a caracterizar a Sanderson, es el de las deidades y la construcción y relación de los Dioses con el resto del mundo. Siempre los sensibiliza y los muestra y retrata de una manera humana, crítica y Neutral. Se evidencia, basado en su narrativa, que el autor es un hombre de fe. Y a mí personalmente, me gusta mucho como trata el tema y la construcción de las religiones. En este libro en particular, hay dos religiones conviviendo, y nacieron ambas después de los eventos de la primera era.

Por esto y más, Brandon Sanderson ha escalado al Top 3 de mis autores favoritos de todos los tiempos. Sin embargo, este no es mi libro favorito, es muy ligero y no me mantuvo pegada a él como suele suceder, funciona para relajarse entre literatura más pesada. Para poder disfrutarla más, deben leer la era uno, porque se pone en contexto. Por los momentos, pararé la saga hasta su momento para volver a leer con todo, Los Archivos de las tormentas. De esta manera, seguiré el orden de lectura sugerido por el autor.
