A temple where a miracle took place.

Today, I managed to carve out some time to write this post because this afternoon, I’m taking my nephew to the carnival. So, I took a little break from work. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to share, but then I realized that I probably hadn’t shared some photos of a place that, in my opinion, is well worth visiting if you're traveling to Tuscany—especially one of the last villages I visited: Montepulciano, which is also quite famous among tourists.

Today, I want to talk to you about the Temple of San Biagio, which is located in Montepulciano. In my opinion, it’s truly a stunning place and one of the masterpieces of Renaissance architecture. I also want to highlight that these kinds of beautiful sites exist outside of Florence as well.

Unfortunately, I was unlucky when I visited Montepulciano because the temple was closed. From what I saw, it is open daily from April 1st to November 3rd, while in the winter season, it only opens on Saturdays and Sundays. From my point of view, it’s definitely worth visiting inside.

The website I’m sharing also contains other useful information. Besides being an architecturally significant place, especially for art lovers, the temple was built in 1518 following a miraculous event. It is said that in front of a fresco depicting the Madonna and Child with Saint Francis, the Virgin’s eyes started to move—as if the painting had come to life.

So, this place is not only remarkable for its architecture, designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder, one of the most active and renowned architects of his time, but also because it remains, even after so many years, an important pilgrimage site for both locals and people traveling from afar.
