Hi there,

I know what you are about to say, I am late to this masterpiece, and you are absolutely right. I have no defense for that except for my poorjudgment of the movie, which is why I am only watching it now. I have seen it a couple of times in the past, and I simply passed it by. I was not really interested previously until I watched a trailer for the upcoming season 2, and I said, well, it would not be so bad if I gave season 1 a shot.

So one late evening, that is exactly what I did. You know that kind of feeling you get when you are on a journey while watching a movie, you can feel every adventure in it while you still enjoy the comic relief in some scene from time to time. Yeah that is exactly who I felt going on the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, the kid who wants to be the king of the pirates.

Let's be honest, there is only a hand few of things a live action can capture compared to the origin anime of the masterpiece, well this was the case with One Piece. Yet the true essence of Eiichiro Oda’s story was still captured. The vibes of possibility mixed with so many uncertainities and yet driven by desire to accomplish one's dream, are all portrayed in the movie. You get the excitement from the get-go with Monkey D. Luffy's optimism about becoming a pirate no matter what. This alone gave me a keen interest in wanting to know how things play out for Monkey D. Luffy. Will he achieve his dream of becoming the king of pirates, and if so, how did he achieve it? This, in return, made me root for him through every obstacle he encountered, and this is what I find beautiful about the series.

Next up is how he was set to forming his crew, which encomprising of a bunch of his friends he made on his journey to become the king of pirates. It is even more funny and still inspiring when I invite them to be on his team, yet they deny, and still they say they are not a team. But gradually they get to do things together, and Monkey's optimistic dreaminspires themn to chase their dream as well. It is an admirable energy to be around somebody like Monkey D. Luffy, a person that is obsessively optimistic that he will achieve his dream no matter what and over time you get to see this same energy rub off on you as well. It says a lot how your team can get inspired by a dream and your desire to achieve it.

Another thing that kept me glued to this series are the characters. Oh my oh my, there are some funny and crazy characters, especially the ones that call themselves pirates. It is interesting to note that these pirates are oppressors taking what is not theirs while oppressing the weak, which is not what being a pirate is all about. It is about the adventure and the meeting of new challenges with your team, and I love how Monkey and his team depict that. They are different, adeventurous and loyal. When I find nice gems like One Piece, I always pray the keep up with the energy they began with because these series tend to drop in content and storyline strength when they have the viewership.

My Rating Score for One Piece: 7.5/10

Go check it our if you haven't already.
