WHILE THE LAW DEFINES OUR LANE IT IS THE TEACHER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO LOOK OUT FOR THEIR PUPILS

A child has many teachers growing up, from their parents, to their siblings and close family, their neighbourhood, its church if the child is from a Christian home, or the mosque if the child is from a Muslim home, or other religious practice. All of which have their roles and functions in grooming and raising this child to be a useful member of society at large.

When a child turns out right, it is usually the efforts of the entity of the groups to which I have mentioned above; when the child turns out bad, it is also the failure of the whole system to which the child has passed. The duty of the school teacher, I believe, starts and ends at the start of school and ends at the end of school time; everyone has their turn in grooming the child at every time of the day or week. The teacher's role to me, I believe, should end in the classroom or rather during school time, although it is still within the reach of the teacher to correct the child after school hours if he catches the child wanting outside school hours.
A child in my culture is believed to be a child of the society at large and it is the society’s responsibility to raise this child, install discipline in the child and correct the child whenever the child is found wanting, a good parent while we were still kids will thank an elderly person for correcting his/her child anytime the child goes astray, it is only in this day and time that parents become protective of their child and refusing to accept correction given to their child from people outside their family forgetting that when a child becomes a terror, he terrorises the entire neighbourhood and not just the family.
It will be bad of a teacher not to correct his/her pupil that is cut misbehaving outside, a good teacher might not even have to say a word to the pupil, but just at the sight of the teacher, the pupil will adjust and behave if the pupil; has respect and regards for their teacher, correcting the pupil shouldn’t be a problem of whether it is the jurisdiction of the school to which the teacher will shield on, the teacher corrects the student whether it is outside his/her jurisdiction because it is the right thing to do as the teacher, the fact that his/her work stops in the school doesn’t mean he/she should allow the ward go astray, it is the teachers duty in or outside the should.
While it might be morally right for the teacher to punish pupils outside the school while they misbehave, it might not be regarded as lawful since the school serves in place of the parents and after school hours the parents are responsible for their children, the teacher will only know what child to discipline and what child not to discipline outside the school by knowing how the parents may reach to the news, a good parent will accept the teachers correction while the another might not, so it is proper to know your lane and stay at it, at best, the teacher might inform the parents to what the child might have been caught doing and leave the punishment for the parents to handle.
