Delta Airlines Further Integrating AI Into Ticket Pricing

Fast food places are not the only companies looking into adjusting prices via artificial intelligence (AI). Airlines, particularly Delta, are jumping into the deep end after testing the waters with their toes. Seemingly positive results are giving the airline company the greenlight to expand AI pricing from 3% to a more favorable 20% in 2025.

Prices Fluctuate Per Individual

According to Forbes.com Delta are increasing their AI use in ticket pricing from 3% to 20% by the end of the year. This is significant as 1/5th of their ticket sales will be custom priced per person based on data available on that person.

Rethinking connecting to the airport Wi-Fi or on-board Wi-Fi yet?

How it works is, any information Delta’s AI has available on you will be used to adjust the price of your ticket. This means the person sitting next to you probably paid significantly less than you for their ticket.

All based on what information the AI has on either of you.

You Are Not as Private as Much as You Think

Remember clicking “allow” on those permissions on your device for that “cool” or “fun” app? Have you accepted cookies without reading the privacy policy on websites? Your posts that are not private on social media too.

This could be detrimental to those portraying a very “high price” lifestyle. Your ticket could be priced much higher based on your fake “living the life” social media posts while a much more private person might get super cheap seats.

Using AI for price adjustments did not end well for Wendy’s fast food announced early last year and quickly backtracked after backlash from customers.

What do you think? Is AI pricing for airline tickets fair and viable? Let me know in the comments.
