Saturday was a beautiful sunny winter day in Buenos Aires. Excellent day for walking and taking pictures. So I went to Puerto Madero with my camera. There were quite a few people walking around the area, having lunch or drinking coffee. But I concentrated on the buildings, the constructions, the reflections and not on the people. I wanted to show the architecture of the place.

El sábado fue un hermoso dia soleado de invierno en Buenos Aires. Excelente dia para pasear y tomar fotografias. Asi fue que fui a Puerto Madero con mi cámara de fotos. Había bastante gente paseando por la zona, almorzando o tamando café. Pero me concentré en los edificios, en las construcciones, en los reflejos y no en la gente. Quería mostrar la arquitectura del lugar.

The Puerto Madero neighborhood where I went for a walk has a very ancient origin. In 1882, a merchant named Eduardo Madero had the idea of building a modern port on the banks of the Río de la Plata. He then presented his project to the president of the nation at the time. The project was approved and Puerto Madero was born. There is a lot of history here. I don't know the initial name of the port, but I suppose that it was not called Puerto Madero at the beginning.
Over the years the area was abandoned, with its rusty cranes in disuse and large empty warehouses. That was my memory of the place, a forgotten area, with garbage, debris. Not a nice place to walk around. I never went there, I only saw it from a distance, because it didn't make me want to go there.
In the 90s, the idea of modernizing the area was born. The large empty warehouses were converted into elegant residential and commercial buildings. Over time, the area was filled with modern skyscrapers that coexisted with the old buildings.
Today, the old coexists with the modern. It is a charming place to walk and also has a large art museum. Many restaurants, cafes, ice cream parlors, cinemas... I remember the cinema when I went years ago to see a Won Kar-wai film,
My Blueberry Nights.
But I didn't take photos of the restaurants, or the cinema, or the people walking in the sun. This time, my interest was the buildings.

El barrio de Puerto Madero al que fui a pasear, tiene un origen bastante antiguo. En el año1882, un comerciante llamado Eduardo Madero tuvo la idea de construir un puerto moderno a orillas del Río de la Plata. Entonces presentó su proyecto al presidente de la Nación de la época. El proyecto fue aprobado y nació Puerto Madero. Hay mucha historia por aquí. Desconozco el nombre inicial que tuvo dicho puerto, pero supongo que en un comienzo no fue llamado Puerto Madero.
Con los años la zona quedó abandonada, con sus gruas oxidadas en desuso y grandes galpones vacios. Ese era mi recuerdo del lugar, una zona olvidada, con basura, escombros. Nada agradable para pasear. Nunca me acerqué por allí, sólo lo vi de lejos, porque no daban deseos de acercarse.
En la década del 90 nació la idea de modernizar la zona.Los grandes galpones vacios se convirtieron en elegantes edificios residenciales y comerciales. Con el tiempo la zona se fue llenando de modernos rascacielos que convivian con las antiguas construcciones.
Hoy convive lo antiguo con lo moderno. Es un coqueto lugar de paseo y también cuenta con un gran museo de arte. Muchos locales de gastronomía, de cafeterias, de heladerías, cines.. Recuerdo el cine cuando fui hace años a ver una película de Won Kar-wai,

Pero no tomé fotografías de los locales de gastronomía, ni del cine, ni de la gente paseando al sol. Esta vez mi interés fueron los edificios.

Finally, I got excited about photographing the reflections of the buildings. They are beautiful, aren't they? They seem like abstract works when focusing on the reflections in sections, without seeing the building in its entirety.

Finalmente me entusiasmé fotografiando los reflejos de los edificios. Son bellos, verdad? Parecen obras abstractas al centrarse en los reflejos por sectores, sin ver el edificio en su totalidad.
