Today, I’m throwing it back to a day that still warms my heart every time I remember it, the day I surprised my mom on her 56th birthday. It happened on November 20th, 2023, and I was in my 300 level at the time. I remember travelling home from school without telling her, carrying a cake and a few gifts I had bought with so much excitement.

She wasn’t expecting me at all. In fact, she thought I was still on campus, busy with classes and schoolwork. Walking into the house and seeing her expression when she realized what was happening is a memory I will never forget. She was shocked at first, then emotional, then all smiles. Even though I didn’t get a personal picture with her that day, I captured photos of the gifts and the cake.

It wasn’t just about celebrating her birthday; it was about appreciating her. After losing my dad a few years back, my mom became the only pillar me and my siblings had. She carried responsibilities on her shoulders without complaining. She supported my education, encouraged me during tough moments, and stood by us with a strength that still amazes me.

Surprising her that day felt like giving back, even if it was just in a small way. It was my own way of saying, “Thank you for everything,” without actually saying the words out loud. That moment remains one of my favourite memories because of the joy it holds.

Gracias¡❤️
