It doesn’t get much more Global South than Africa. Nonetheless it seems in the “world” [mainly the melanin deficient post-colonial world that is] – there’s very little reporting on Africa. Those that do – and whose reports find their way to your humble blogger – are inevitably superfluous with hyperbole. This media is framing Captain Ibrahim Traore, President of Burkino Faso as some kind of super hero. Not to disparage the leader. We are calling out the hype-meisters. Mostly they are not reporters but antagonists.
Every time Traore issues a decree or survives an assassination attempt, accepts new weapons systems, makes a deal with Russia or sends troops to the border it’s some super heroic feat. Media – (we suspect that it’s not even local Burkina Faso media) – starts waving the cape at the bull.
All we have to evaluate the administration of Captain Traore is this media, footage – edited like Marvel Comics movies and his speeches.
It’s been 2 or 3 years – almost exactly since Traore came to power (in a coup, ousting the previous military leader who toppled the elected government in a coup.) Burkina Faso seems to be doing well and Captain Traore strikes us as a level-headed strategic Burkino Faso first kind of leader. He seems to have a grasp of history and a vision for the future. He knows that future isn’t with France, Europe or the US. He is doing exactly what he should be doing as the leader of his country.
And – what he is doing now is what got African leaders assassinated in the 1960s … and since the 1960s. There’s the spirit of Patrice Lumumba (Congo) with the military background, vision and defiance of Fidel Castro. However while Castro expelled commerce from Cuba, Traore is inviting … indeed mandating that commerce come to Burkina Faso.
The Ecofin Agency headline reads: “Burkina Faso to Require Large Companies to Establish Headquarters in the Country.”
“The Burkinabe government plans to compel companies generating at least CFA5 billion ($8.8 million) in annual revenue to establish their headquarters in the country. Officials said the measure will strengthen local economic integration and promote urban development.”
Of course if this is the case the Burkinabe government will have to assure security, but it will mean a lot of income and jobs for the locals. A real jolt to the economy. An economy that could build a solid middle class.
“The Council of Ministers, chaired by Captain Ibrahim Traoré on October 9, 2025, adopted a draft bill that mandates qualifying companies to build local headquarters according to defined construction standards.
“If approved, the law will take effect promptly. Companies will then have six months to submit real estate plans and begin construction.”
“The new regulation classifies companies into four categories based on annual revenue: above CFA100 billion; between 50 and 100 billion; between 10 and 50 billion; and between 5 and 10 billion. Construction requirements will vary by category and will be defined jointly with the Ministry of Urban Planning.”
We are keeping an eye on developments in the Sahel states, Burkina Faso and various parts of Africa.
I just heard that Ethiopia has joined BRICS. Now the “economic cooperation organization” is reported to have a greater GDP than the G-7 … comprised mostly of European countries.
We are sending good vibes out to the “Upstanding” “Honest” People (that’s what Burkina Faso means “the land of honest people…” of Burkino Faso. We may see an application for BRICS from them before the end of this year … if it hasn’t happened already.
Bizarro Dream … 101925
“I’ve always had your back.” In response to the implication that I never looked out for … the subject in the dream. Everything else was allowed to be lost to the conscious and absorbed into the depths.
The Night of … 23609
Woke up at 5 AM.
Got up at 6 AM. That hour went quickly.
We did a minute workout inside today. Just wasn’t feeling the pre-dawn stretch.
We were – however feeling the Monkey Bars. We took that walk and being Sunday there were few pedestrians outside and almost zero construction. This particular route to the playground – the most direct one, once had three construction sites along the way. Now it has three. Ha ha. One was completed – it was more of a renovation job … two more are nearly completed and the one that started in my neighborhood is still in its first year.
Building began just after I moved out.
Today was lovely – sunny and warm. We spent a couple of hours at the playground. We have decided to return to bar-walk … hand over hand and then laterally across the ladder bars. One handed hangs with the wrap. Pike pushups with the legs suspended with one of those resistance bands. We also use one of those bands to enhance our pull ups but also do regular pull ups. We are not rockin’ them out like we used to. Nonetheless we believe that we can be back to some good rep numbers. What we really want and need is to increase the range of motion on the pull ups. We must get chest to bar height. Touch it! To that end we did some Australian pull ups – 45 degree angle – heels on the ground … pull chest to bar. Don’t knock it like I did. It’s difficult. But very helpful. It will get the vessel used to what you want it to do. Keep reducing the angle as you get stronger.
Meat-Off day. As well as long fast and one meal. Mashed potatoes and eggs. I went to the park instead of getting greens. Tomorrow we will pick up some spinach and do a spinach and mushrooms omelet. Maybe we will get to some quinoa this round as well. We are going to do four days of no meat, so maybe we will restock the avocados and pick up some other kinds of greens. We are still doing the morning shakes – so I guess today wasn’t a complete fast. But we can get some kale to add to the shake.
Starting off the week … the weight is good. Back to where we should be after we dipped close to 160 lbs. We think that 170 – 173 would do us good as long as the ten pounds we add is all muscle. Not mostly muscle. ALL Muscle. Neat trick because we also want to shred 5 lbs of fat too. No stage show and no contest … other than preparing for a long healthy life in an unpredictable world.
