Good morning, moms and dads. Every year on January 28, our beautiful state dresses up to celebrate Zulianidad Day. It's a day to feel proud of being born in this land and to connect deeply with our roots, history, culture, and cuisine. At the girls' school, it's always a day of great excitement and enthusiasm. Such an important celebration calls for appropriate attire, so the girls wore a Manta Guajira, a type of clothing worn by our Guajira women who are part of the Wayuu people who inhabit this region of the country. They waved the flag of Zulia State in their hands. They also brought food to share with their classmates, including tequeños and papelón.
Alys had a small presentation about the meaning of the symbols on the flag, saying, "The flag of Zulia State has a sun that gives us warmth and a lightning bolt that represents the Catatumbo Lightning." We practiced all week.
Their teachers organized small spaces in their classrooms with valuable information about the state of Zulia, such as our geographical location, national and natural symbols, musical instruments, and traditional games, accompanied by a table with typical foods from the region, including mandoca, coconut sweets, and the most refreshing dessert of all, cepillado. The children enjoyed the varied cuisine we have to offer.
My eldest daughter Alys did an excellent job with her presentation. She feels very confident when speaking and her tone of voice is improving all the time. I am very proud of her. Meanwhile, Abby was trying on some Guajiro hats that her friends had brought along, and I felt that this was the only accessory missing from her outfit. We have one at home, but I happened to forget to put it on either of them that day.

El 28 de Enero de cada año nuestro bello estado se viste de fiesta para celebrar el Día de la Zulianidad, es un día para sentirnos orgullosos de haber nacido en ésta tierra y conectar profundamente con nuestras raíces, historia, cultura y gastronomía, en el colegio de las niñas siempre se vive con mucha algarabía y entusiasmo, quiero compartirles parte de la experiencia.
Una celebración tan importante debe ir con ropa acorde, así que las niñas llevaron como vestimenta una Manta Guajira, este tipo de ropa la utilizan nuestras mujeres Guajiras que forman parte del pueblo Wayuu que habitan en esta región del país, en sus manitas llevaban ondeando la Bandera del Estado Zulia, también hay que llevar comida para compartir ellas llevaron tequeños y papelón para compartir con sus compañeros de clases.
Alys tenía una pequeña exposición acerca del significado de los dibujos que lleva dicho símbolo y decía: "La Bandera del Estado Zulia tiene un sol que nos da calor y un rayo que representa el Relámpago del Catatumbo", practicamos toda la semana.
