Last week was my nephews traditional ceremony which we call it as Navjote. This ceremony is done for children between the age of 7 and 11. It is like a thread ceremony with which the child is initiated into the Zoroastrian religion. This ceremony celebrations are as good as a wedding celebration. We invite community people to participate in this ceremony. It is a very proud moment for the family when their child gets initiated into the religion.
The ceremony normally takes around an hour, which is performed by the priests, post which the child visits the Fire-Temple to see the divine blessings and then we have a grand celebrations with food and drinks with family and friends. Normally a crowd of 300 to 400 people is invited. We invite our neighbors, family, friends everyone to participate in this joyous occasion. Number of people also depends on how many people you know and who you want to invite. For occasion like this we invite almost everyone we know.
I always look forward to these kind of events, because this is the time when I get to meet everyone under one roof at one time. And also not to miss the traditional food that gets served for dinner. It's always a delight, there is dance, music, drinks, good food, and so much fun. Again the celebration is done as per individual's capacity. Not everyone can do it in a lavish style, though everyone likes to. Parents start saving some years in advance for this ceremony. Some even take loans, which I do not like, because I believe that whatever it is one must do this ceremony in whatever capacity they are capable of.

In this picture the ceremony is completed and now the mother of the child is doing some rituals and getting him dressed up.

The place is all set up for the guests

This seating is for the dinner serving

It says join us for food

I always wear traditional saree for such events. With hubby

And a solo click

These are the traditions that keep us connected with our roots. The party and all are new inventions of the modern age, they are not necessity, the ceremony is the important part. Though these days it's all become show business, everyone thinks I should do it better then others and in the bargain they keep raising the bar which then becomes challenging for those who cannot afford it. It was good fun, but by the end of the event we were all exhausted.
Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸
