I know someone who has been raising her grandchildren for the last 7 years. Her son is the father and he got ten years in jail for setting a house on fire, he took pride in his children he had a good job and was buying his own home but after he split with the mother of his girls he got messed up with an old girlfriend who was on heavy drugs. That is not an excuse for him, he knew what he was doing.

The children's mother does not want to care for them but is supposed to pay child support. Every so often they have to go to court because she is not paying it. Last Thursday she had to be in court for the child support hearing. The judge asked the children's mother if she was working and she said no, he said, why not? And she tells the judge she can not find a job.

When it was time for the grandmother to speak she said, she gets a job but would only stay at it for three weeks because she knew that was when they started taking out child support so she quits the job. She also told the judge that last year she refused to file income tax because she knew she would not get it, they withhold it for back child support. The judge asked if she filed, and she told him that one of the places she worked for never sent the W-2 form to her so she did not file for that reason. The judge knew better.

The judge asked what she does with the money that she does make, she told the judge that she had to take care of her needs. The judge asked about her children's needs and the mother replied, "they have her taking care of them." That was not the right thing to say to a judge.

The judge ordered her to pay 200 by the 23 of this month and 400 by March 23, if she does not pay it, they will take away her driver's license. I do not think that is the right thing to do. If you want someone to work and take away their license, how are they going to get to work? I do not know what the right thing to do is but that does not make sense to me.
