For today I want to share with you the making process of the last piece of birthday outfits I made for my friend's daughter. Tomorrow is our baby's birthday, and the photoshoot will take place later today.

I'm just glad that I was able to make the outfits in record time.

I had to stay up last night to complete the making of the dress, and lucky me, I had a power supply that made the work faster and less stressful. I have been pedaling the sewing machine for the past 4 days that my legs began to ache. The moment our power supply was restored, I joyfully swapped machines to use the electrical one.

The dress is quite similar to the first one I made, a shirt dress with cap sleeves. It's the third dress I will be making for the baby girl. I was sure of the measurements and what to do.

Before now I always avoided sewing baby clothes, but today I'm so glad that I finally took the bold step to start making them, and now I sew lovely children's clothes.

While making this dress, my neighbor brought her daughter for a fitting, and thank goodness she did because I was so surprised that a baby I made a dress for barely 2 months ago has lost about 4" of weight.

She had recently started walking, and I learned that when babies start to walk or are teething, they often lose weight. Besides, she hasn't been eating well, maybe due to the teething. There is so much to learn about nursing babies.

While I was able to adjust the dress to her size, I had to unstitch the ones I made earlier and slim it down to her new measurements.

So her current measurements are now

  • Bust 18" as against the 22" I had measured and used earlier

  • Her waist is 17" contrary to 20".

With the new measurements, I proceeded to cut the front block of the dress, slashing it to create the button allowance.

The sleeves for this one are cap sleeves, and for a baby size I didn't use more than 4" length of it with extra allowances for pleating.

Here is a buttonhole attachment of 2" width and the length of the dress which I added hairstay to it for enhancement.

Next is the sewing aspect.

After cutting the linings in a similar way as the dress, I proceeded to turn the necklines first. Joined the gathered lower bodice, and then it was the turn of the sleeves and buttonhole allowance. It was really late in the night, and I didn't remember to take more pictures.

As soon as the dress was ready, I made haste to iron it out, and I was brushing up on the ironing before the power supply was yanked off. I was glad that at least I was able to iron out the better part of the outfit.

The dresses are so beautiful that I couldn't pick a favorite out of the two flowery materials I had used to make these outfits.
Hopefully I could get some beautiful pictures from her photoshoot session today.
