Here is the large scale yam farm that has already been cultivated and planted for this year's farming session. Yam takeses about 8months to before it matures fully hence it is often planted very earlier.
Nov-Dec has always been the perfect timing for planting yam even though some carry out more planting exercise even into the month of February.

Right after planting mulching is another exercise we carry out to protect the growing seedlings from severe heat, this is done by folding leaves and placing on the tops of each yam ridges while using heaps of sands to secure the leaves on the ridge. The excess heat from the sun doesn't get to the yams.
Meanwhile the yams need some little amount of heat to begin it's germination process. Excess heat will make the seedlings to get rotten and unable to germinate.

Below is how a yam ridge looks like. A circular heals of sand made manually. Tractors or camels do not make these kind of ridges hence it has to be constructed by hands.

I do have some yam seedlings yet to be planted and this will be done in the coming week.

Sometimes making barricade to separate the different crops on the different acre of land planted is usually important.
We do have some domestic animals and/herdsmen that often times being their cows into the farm grazing across the planted crops destroying some crops even before harvest. This barricade serve as a first line of protection for planted crops.
Expensive ones can be done with wiring which is the best protective methods but in the absence of that, this is what we do.

This barricade was made with woods that have thorns/spikes.

The preparation to cover the remaining 22acre of land space with green plant and edible grains is seriously ongoing. And if this first attempt at large scale farming pulled through to feed as many people as we desire either through selling cheaper grains or any method of distribution, there will be plans for expansion in subsequent farming season. I understand the importance of starting small based on the intensive capital requirement and the finances I currently have at hand and my fellow farmers. 22acres of land is not something I can cover alone hence I have paired with other farmers around.
Work has started, clearing and tractor preparations. The next item is the business plan for this large scale farming.
Part of the business plan is what I will be planting in my own piece of the land.
At this point I will list some of the grains planted here and will see what better combinations we can make.

In order to maximize the land space we have to do a mixed farming out of the combinations that will be listed below.

Corn
Millet
Guniea corn
Cassava
Yams
Beans
soya beans

Suggestions on combinations that will both reduce cost and other shortcomings like insect/pest infestation that can be transmitted between these crops must be put on check.
