How long until the first nuke?

I've been catching up on this whole AI race debacle, and things are looking quite grim I have to say. As a matter of fact, as of me typing this, a second AI has been released. This will surely tank everything.

A long time ago now

I was listening to a panel discussing the implications of AI. What it will mean for the world, for the economies, and more so for the power dynamics between countries.

One of the things that really stood out to me, was the fact that some prominent voices in the panel, one of them being Sam Harris btw, insisted that the creation of a generalized AI would most definitely result in nuclear war.

Why? I can almost hear you asking, and the truth is that the simplest explanation is the best one. For as long as humans have been humans, whoever controls the resources, dictates the rules of the game.

A generalized true AI would be for lack of better words, the perfect weapon, the perfect resource, and thus it will be treated like water reserves in arid lands. Imagining how that would result in conflict becomes quite easy if framed this way.

I suspect

We are close to actual conflict at the moment. The fact that China has released not 1, but 2 AI models for free seems like a clear signal that they are not messing around, and that they are possibly leagues ahead of America in this field.

This new AI is completely free, and I have to say, It works amazingly.

The Trump administration will be forced to sink a ton of money to keep up, but I'm not convinced it will actually work anymore. We had no idea how behind on the board we were up until this crazy weekend.

What about the stocks?

Who would imagine that China would build the same thing for cheaper? I mean, nobody saw that coming, right?

On a serious note, we seem to be entering panic mode at the moment, and the markets have turned red. Nvidia is bleeding out money, and who knows how that story will turn out at the end of today when the market reacts to this new competitor.

This, my friends, is a type of war, an economic war we are witnessing, but it doesn't mean it can't transmute into something else, into boots on the ground or as the title of my post suggest, into nukes.
