I started my walk in Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the "Venice of the Cotswolds" because of its beautiful river running through the village. The quaint stone bridges and the lovely little shops lining the streets were a delight to explore. I couldn’t resist stopping at a traditional tearoom for a warm scone and clotted cream—an absolute must!
As I wandered through the countryside, I encountered the stunning scenery of the Cotswold Hills. The patchwork fields, dotted with sheep and the occasional old stone barn, were truly a sight to behold. I walked along the trail to Upper Slaughter, and the sound of the babbling River Eye accompanied me along the way, adding to the serene atmosphere.
Along the path, I met an elderly gentleman who was out walking his dog. We struck up a conversation about the history of the area. He shared fascinating stories about the wool trade that thrived here in the Middle Ages and how the Cotswold stone was used in many historic buildings. His passion for the local history was infectious, and I enjoyed learning about how the area had changed over the decades.
After a couple of hours, I arrived at the lovely village of Upper Slaughter, known for its striking manor houses and peaceful charm. The tranquility of the village, with its old stone houses and the beautiful Mill, made it the perfect place to rest for a moment and take in the surroundings.
As I made my way back, the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the landscape. It was a truly magical end to a lovely day. The experience reminded me of how rich our history is and how exploring the countryside can uncover stories from the past that continue to shape our present.
