Fledgling: Part 110

Greetings all
Finally, I managed to write a little more, now that I have all my ducks in a row. Just a heads up to new readers, this update touches on a lot of things that occurred in Fell Dragon, and you may be a little lost.
Please enjoy the update!

Shareik felt his heart was pounding in his chest. She had almost caught him, but she didn’t know the time corridors as well as he did. He hadn’t expected her to find her way here alone and with no Wolven accompanying her.
What was she doing here? How had she learned to come here without assistance? Was she trying to stop him? Why? A tamed Fell Dragon would solve everyone’s problems. Wouldn’t it?
Shareik longed for answers, but he didn’t have the time for that. He had followed his favoured young Champion as far as he could. She had slowly started healing from what Edzeeker had done to her. She had been slow to open up, and eventually reconnected with family and friends, and even found love again.
Now that he was sure that she would recover from her past, he tried to find the one whom she had rescued. This was the past version of the one hunting him. However, this one’s starting point he didn’t know; he needed to find it to be sure of where her time branched from his favoured Champion.
It took decades, if not centuries, to find the root of her time. The reason it had taken so long was because of how similar her beginning was to his Champion. It had taken so long that he had been forced to take an apprentice to help with the work he should have been concentrating on.
His name was Matta, and he was likely the last of the Heavenly born. His creation was a bit of a mystery. New Heavenly were created when a new Dragon was created. However, it had been some time since a new Dragon had been born in any time. It was strange. There had been many Champions and Dragons throughout the timelines and universes, but ever since the Dragon was trapped within the time corridors, its numbers started to drop.
While Shareik should have been pleased, it worried him. The universe had spent millennia trying to curb the Dragon’s influence, and now it seemed to have just shrunk in on itself, and no one knew why.
Shrugging off his concern, he traced the beginning of this Saita’s line. He frowned.
“No. I thought I put a stop to this.” He muttered under his breath when he laid eyes on the child in the hospital room, surrounded by the queen and several other members of staff.
The girl was young, looked starved, and terrified. She was acting like a feral animal and wouldn’t let anyone touch her.
“This is wrong. I told Edzeeker…” he stopped himself when he became aware of Matta being close.
He didn’t understand. He was sure that he had told Edzeeker not to take children. He rattled his brain to find a reason for this to be allowed. He was furious, but he couldn’t show it while Matta was with him.
Matta.
Of course, he thought to himself. Something must have happened, and a new Dragon was born! That would explain Matta being here to begin with. With the Dragon being in the time corridors now, he hadn’t felt its new birth.
Furious with himself and likely a future version of himself, he continued to look over the child as she slowly regained her voice and autonomy. She reminded her so much of the little girl he had met in that farmhouse. He longed to reach out and speak to her about what had happened to her, but he had heard that she didn’t have many memories of what had happened to her.
“Looks like the royal pair are adopting a youngster.” Said Matta as he joined his mentor.
Shareik shrugged off the comment as he watched the girl save the prince, and then the parents chose to welcome her into their family. He desperately wanted to get his hands on her memories.
Then, an idea hit him. When he was first brought into existence, Heavenly would occasionally welcome royal children of their choosing. It was so simple!
“I believe it’s time for us to welcome the new little princess.” He found himself saying.
Matta fixed him with a withering look, “That is an old custom no one practices anymore.”
Shareik grinned at his younger companion, “All the more reason to bring it back.”
Matta hadn’t been happy when Shareik had sent a letter to King Karesh to inform him of his intent to meet the new Princess, but the old Heavenly didn’t care for his displeasure.
