The historic center of Puerto Cabello: it's not the same anymore (ENG-ESP)

"Puerto Cabello is in vogue" is the government slogan to boost tourism in this city in Venezuela.

The historic center is an attractive place where you can stroll along the boardwalk, through the plazas, or among the grand sculptures and historical monuments.

The atmosphere is pleasant. Many people walk the streets, observing the colonial architecture, enjoying the vibrant, bright, and well-preserved colors.

Among its alleyways, you'll find bars, restaurants, a casino, and other establishments for all tastes. All facing the sea, which seems to witness the atmosphere. Or rather, it is the main and natural attraction.

I went with some friends. We arrived around 4 in the afternoon. The ideal time, in my opinion, to enjoy the sunset, when the sun begins to soften its rays, while the sea breeze refreshes your face.

“Puerto Cabello está de moda” es el eslogan gubernamental para impulsar el turismo en esta ciudad de Venezuela.

El centro histórico es un lugar atractivo donde puedes pasear por el malecón, las plazas o entre las grandes esculturas y monumentos históricos.

El ambiente es agradable. Mucha gente camina por las calles, observando la arquitectura colonial, disfrutando de los colores vibrantes, brillantes y bien conservados.

Entre sus callejones encuentras bares, restaurantes, un casino, entre otros locales para todos los gustos. Todo frente al mar, que parece ser testigo del ambiente. O mejor dicho, es el atractivo principal y natural.

Fui con unos amigos. Llegamos a eso de las 4 de la tarde. La hora ideal, en mi opinión, para disfrutar del atardecer y donde el sol empieza a suavizar sus rayos, mientras la brisa marina refresca el rostro.

We went to a museum and also to the boardwalk, where there are various attractions, from a theme park to a long stretch where you can chat about anything while contemplating the immensity of the sea.

Fortunately, I had my camera, so I couldn't help but photograph the entire place and its people.

The buildings are relatively well-maintained and look good, at least from the outside.

I felt like a tourist, even though I live about 40 minutes from Puerto Cabello.

This "change" in atmosphere happened just a few years ago. This part of the port used to be much quieter. In other words, it was "less touristy."

Fuimos a un museo y también al malecón, donde hay varios atractivos, desde un parque temático hasta un largo recorrido que puedes hacer conversando de cualquier tema mientras contemplas la inmensidad del mar.

Por fortuna tenía mi cámara, así que no podía evitar fotografiar todo el lugar y su gente.

Los edificios están relativamente cuidados y lucen, al menos por fuera, bien.

Yo me sentía un turista, pese a que vivo a unos 40 minutos de Puerto Cabello.

Este “cambio” de ambiente se dio hace unos pocos años. Y es que esta parte del puerto solía estar más sola. En otras palabras, era “menos turística”.

That's why my astonishment, and that of my friends.

The whole atmosphere was also ideal for taking a dip. In fact, on other occasions, I've seen children swimming and jumping in from there.

I didn't because we had already been swimming for quite a while, but the point is that if you're in the area and want to, there's no problem.

And if not, you can enjoy the architecture.

Por eso mi asombro, al igual que el de mis amigos.

Todo el ambiente era ideal también para darse un chapuzón. De hecho, en otras ocasiones he visto a niños bañarse y lanzarse desde allí.

Yo no lo hice porque ya veníamos de haber nadado un buen rato, pero el punto es que si estás por esos lares y quieres hacerlo, pues no hay problema.

Y si no, puedes disfrutar de la arquitectura.

From plazas (I apologize for not knowing their names). They are very distinctive, and you'll recognize them. I couldn't take photos because my battery had already died at that point, but I did manage to photograph the main one, where there's a large monument to Simón Bolívar, one of the main figures in Venezuelan history. I also saw the Puerto Cabello City Hall, which is yellow and very noticeable.

I also saw some interesting sculptures, like a large cube, as well as one of a musical band that looked like it was actually playing.

I believe that all of this, together with the sea, makes the historic center of Puerto Cabello an interesting tourist attraction in the region.

Desde plazas (me disculpo por desconocer sus nombres). Son muy características y las reconocerás. No pude tomar fotos porque en ese momento ya se me había descargado la batería, pero sí pude fotografiar la principal, donde hay un gran monumento de Simón Bolívar, uno de los personajes principales de la historia venezolana. También vi la alcaldía de Puerto Cabello, cuyo color es amarillo y es muy notorio.

También vi unas esculturas interesantes, como la de un gran cubo, así como la de una banda musical que pareciera estar tocando de verdad.

Creo que todo esto, junto al mar, hacen del centro histórico de Puerto Cabello un atractivo turístico interesante en la región.

It's a good plan to break from the routine and enjoy nature, but also a comfortable place that combines history with modernity.

Puerto Cabello is a municipality with many attractions due to its beaches, so this part of the city is an option if you want something beyond just swimming in the sea.

At least that's what I did, and I thought it was ideal. My friends also enjoyed a different kind of afternoon.

Es un buen plan para salir de la rutina y disfrutar de la naturaleza, pero también de un lugar cómodo que combina la historia con la modernidad.

Puerto Cabello es un municipio con muchos atractivos por sus playas, así que esta parte de la ciudad es una opción si quieres algo más allá de nadar en el mar.

Al menos eso fue lo que hice y me pareció ideal. Mis amigos también disfrutaron de una tarde distinta.
