Snow Play and Snow Walks on Cold Days

Whether it is cold or not, I need to take my dog out for walks to keep his body healthy and to maintain my mental health. I heard that there is a rule in Germany that dogs must be taken out twice a day. In Japan, people usually take their dogs for walks twice a day as well. In my area in Canada, people often walk their dogs in towns or cities, but in the countryside, I do not see people walking with their dogs very much. I think many yard dogs are often free on their large properties.

However, I do not let my dog roam freely on our property for long hours. I take my dog for walks twice a day, even though they are short. It is not easy to go outside when it is very cold. My dog also likes to have options depending on his mood. He is a lucky boy to have quite a few options for his walks.

His recent favourite place is a school ground near our house. I used to work at this school, and I knew that my dog would love this place. He really enjoys chasing balls. He cannot destroy these big balls, so he literally plays with them.

Everything looks cold with the white, frozen snow. The sunshine gives us happy moments.

The handmade yellow bench looks cold as well. Without children, all the school playground equipment looks colder than usual.

Now, I will show some evening walk photos. This forest is also one of his favourite places, especially in winter.

There is a broken tree on the trail, but my dog can go under it very quickly and smoothly. He knows this forest very well. I think my dog’s view is very wide, sharp, and clear. His eye angle must give him a wonderful view.

After coming back from the cold winter walk, I had a warm stew with potatoes, carrots, shimeji mushrooms, pork, and Orion cream stew with boiled asparagus. Actually, my husband cooked most of it this time. Houses in snowy regions are usually warmer than the outside. Creating a cozy atmosphere is very important for people here.

We donated to the food bank the other day, and I hope everyone can have a cozy winter shelter whenever they need one.

Winter may be cold and quiet, but these small daily walks remind me of warmth, connection, and gratitude. Walking together, even for a short time, feels like enough.

寒い日の雪遊びと散歩

寒いかどうかに関わらず、愛犬の健康と自分自身の心の健康を維持するために、毎日犬の散歩に出かけるのを日課にしています。ドイツでは、犬を１日に２回外に連れ出すというルールがあると聞いたことがあります。日本でも、一般的に犬の散歩は１日２回行く人が多いと思います。カナダの私の住んでいる地域では、町や市街地では犬と一緒に歩いている人をよく見かけますが、田舎ではあまり見かけません。広い敷地で自由に過ごしている、庭犬が多いのだと思います。

でも、家は犬を長時間、敷地内で自由にさせることはしていません。短い時間でも、１日に２回は必ず散歩に連れて行きます。とても寒い日は外に出るのが大変ですが、犬にもその日の気分によって行きたい場所の好みがあるようです。いくつか選択肢があるのは、彼にとっても幸せなことだと思います。

最近のお気に入りの場所は、家の近くにある学校の校庭です。私は以前この学校で働いていたので、きっとこの場所を気に入るだろうと思っていました。彼はボールを追いかけるのが大好きです。大きなボールは壊せないので、文字通りボールで遊ぶことができます。

白く凍った雪に覆われて、景色はすべて冷たく見えます。それでも、陽の光がわずかな幸せを与えてくれます。

手作りの黄色いベンチも、どこか寒そうに見えます。子どもたちのいない校庭の遊具は、いつもより一層冷たく、静かに感じられました。

ここからは、夕方の散歩の写真です。この森も、特に冬には彼のお気に入りの場所のひとつです。

散歩道には倒れた木がありますが、お構いなしでサッと素早く、滑らかにその下をくぐっていきます。彼はこの森をよく知っています。きっと彼の視界は広く、鋭く、澄んでいるのだろうと思います。犬の目線から見える景色は、とても美しいのではないでしょうか。

寒い冬の散歩から帰ったあと、私はじゃがいも、にんじん、しめじ、豚肉、そしてアスパラガスを添えたオリオンのクリームシチューを食べました。今回は、主に夫が作ってくれました。雪国の家の中は、外に比べてとても暖かいことが多いです。外が寒いので居心地のよい空間をつくることがとても大切です。

先日、フードバンクに寄付をしましたが、必要なときに、誰もが暖かく過ごせる冬の居場所を持てることを願っています。

冬は寒く静かな季節ですが、こうした日々の小さな散歩が、私に温かさやつながり、そして感謝の気持ちを思い出させてくれます。ほんの短い時間でも、一緒に歩くだけで十分だと感じます。
