Just recently, Cristiano Ronaldo shocked the world by signing to Saudi Arabian Club Al Nassr, with a shocking move of around $200 million per year, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Putting aside money, I don't think there's enough reason to move to a league very far to European football quality. I bet anyone here on Hive can still say there's no other reason for Ronaldo to play in Saudi Arabia, an Asian league aside from money. There's not much competition and quality for this league, with all honesty.
In fact, he was interviewed before and he mentioned that he wants to retire on a European club. One thing that he mentioned that he doesn't want to play in MLS or logically any league lower than European level. That was against his words.
Another reason why I see it as a very bad move was that we know that Ronaldo is so obsessed with Records and because of this move, he might be overtaken by his counterpart Lionel Messi of Argentina. Here are the possible records that Ronaldo might be overtaken:
- UEFA Champions League top goal scorer
- Top goal scorer in Europe's Top 5 League's History

I don't think that he doesn't care about this title. He's a proven contender and the fear of being overtaken was actually one of the very reasons why he's leaving Manchester United. The moment United went to Europa League because they failed to make it to the top 4 in Premier League last season, he wants to be out. He's been looking out in the market where can he land a team that can play Champions League.
For me, I don't see this as a good move for the Portuguese striker. Many fans have displayed dismay over his decision to move to Al Nassr because they will surely miss Ronaldo on a top level. The world will surely miss a legendary player that still has the fuel to fire more goals at an elite level.
What do you think about this move?
