Brewing scales are a great addition to any coffee setup, but choosing the right one can be a daunting task. The Brewista Smart Scale II is a great option for the price, and it features six brew modes that are primarily for espresso, but it can be used for brewing as well. It has a scale sensitivity of up to a 10th of a gram, an auto shut off feature, a 2000 gram capacity, and a heat resistant silicone pad. It also has a built in timer and a backlit LCD screen. The drawbacks are that it's not waterproof, it has a slow response time, and it's not rechargeable.
The Jennings CJ4000 scale is the most basic option, with a great price point. It offers great functionality and has a max capacity of four kilograms. It measures in half gram increments, has an auto off function that can be disabled, and is powered by AAA batteries or can be charged with the provided AC adapter. Its drawbacks are that it doesn't have a timer function, isn't particularly attractive, and is not as sensitive as some of the scales that are on this list.
The Hario Drip scale is designed with specialty coffee in mind, offering both a gram scale and timer. Its large weighing platform will accommodate brewers of all sizes. It has a nice touch sensitive buttons, five minute auto shutoff feature, and a timer that extends to just shy of 100 minutes when being used. It also has a 2000 gram capacity and is powered by two AAA batteries. The drawbacks for the drip scale are that it only measures in grams, weighs in varying increments, depending on the weight, and it doesn't start weighing until two grams are on the scale.
