Book of Genesis: Fig Leaves Reflection and Sacrifices

Every Thursday of the week, our company will conduct an hour to have Bible Study. To pause just for a while from our work loads and make some time with God. So today earlier this afternoon, we have our Bible Study and I was amazed by the song used during the opening because it hit exactly what I’ve been feeling. The feeling of being lost in the middle of the desert and thought that everything was impossible, but through Him, all things are possible. It was literally that God will make a way when you think that there is no way. Let’s just put our trust in Him and lean not into our own understanding.

The pastor talks about the book of Genesis in which it centers on the Old Testament, how Adam and Eve was tempted by the serpent, and on how God still forgave them despite on the sin that they have committed. After Eve took the bite on the fruit that came from the tree of wisdom, she offered it to Adam and opened their minds then hide knowing that they where both naked. From shame, they covered themselves using the fig leaves. Fig leaves from the story is not just a leaf, it represents with deeper meaning. After God, rid them from the Garden of Eden after committing a sin, they clothed them first using the skin of an animal. It shows that from the Old Testament, the skin from an animal represents a sacrifice for them to be forgiven, in which its intel the future of the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ that in the New Testament.

After the Chapter 3 of the book of Genesis onward, we are the broken generation. Perfect human was found the day before Adam and Eve was tempted. And today, we must live life with Jesus Christ in our lives. Fig leaves might represent just our temporary cover ups from anything that bother us. Hide any sins, damages, brokenness, and doubts but it cannot solve anything, instead through the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, His blood that shedding us help our cover ups healed and He forgives our sins with God’s grace. Just like the innocent animal died to cover Adam and Eve, Jesus Christ the spotless Lamb died to cover us with righteousness.

It might be difficult to live as Christians because of judgement that have been committed by anyone, but let us always remember that our God is a forgiving God. Let us not tempted to the hearsay of anyone just to loosen our faith to Him but instead, let us make this way to strengthen our faith in Him. Instead of depending just unto ourselves or who are just like us, we must depend into God who knows everything that for us seems uncertain. It might be blurry and unknown and full of doubts, we must remember that everything has a purpose why it happened. You just need to trust Him. By His sacrificed, we are all saved and we are all given a second chance to reflect on our own mistakes. Learn from it day by day. Do not cover yourself just to get lost for the meantime to your problems, just face it with God.
Todays preaching was in line to the Advent Season as Christmas Season was fast approaching. It’s a season of love, forgiveness and enlightens hope to everyone. Just like Jesus Christ, may we love each other in the midst of the chaotic world, may we forgive people those who hurt us as our Lord forgiven us, and lastly, may we shed light of hope to anyone who is hopeless due to their problems in life. We may like Adam and Eve who was tempted, but let us be like Jesus Christ who ask forgiveness to our God Almighty as He sacrificed Himself just to saved us from our sins.

To end this thoughts, let me leave you a question, “What part of God’s character can you mirror today?”
