The captain furrowed his brow in painful thought. The last sailor lost on the Silverton was Junior Petty Officer 'Spinny MacCullagh' in the Indian ocean, and an image of him flashed through his mind...
"Damn few Lass! But when it has happened...we aw' feels th' pain!" He said as he took an unconscious deep breath.

Tamaralovelace nodded slightly, regretting the question. Her mind was filled with worry and she could tell the captain felt it too.

[Youngstown...]

🪶🪶🪶🪶🪶

Many of the festive activities of the evening before had settled as the early morning sun rose over Youngstown. Commander Galligan quietly skirted the main square, keeping his eyes on the remaining figures still milling around the trading booths.

“South, south to where do you think Sairrr?” Commander Kerrislravenhill asked as the small group of sailors followed him through the town.

“They’ll know we’re coming…”Galligan replied, not stopping, “My bet is they will get clear of town and hide out in the forest for a couple days, hoping for escape.”

Kerrislravenhill thought hard about what would be the most likely scenario, but having never been in these parts, she finally resigned her thoughts and followed Galligan south.

Soon the last of the rough shacks in the outskirts of town fell silently to their backs and Galligan struck out on the trail along the river. The morning sun now was shining through the trees and made walking that much easier. Suddenly, Galligan stopped near a small clearing and knelt down on one knee…

“Blood!” He said as he ran his finger through a small puddle splashed onto the forest floor…rubbing it between his fingers, it was still wet, “And fresh!”

“Oh Gawd…” Kerrislravenhill whispered, half to herself, “Would they be so cruel?!”
“Apparently not…”Galligan replied matter of factly as he pointed up into the branches above their heads.

Kerrislravenhill glanced upward, and there, still embedded in the trunk of a tree stood an arrow shaft. Galligan stood up and reached out and pulled the arrow out of the bark, observing it’s feathers carefully…

“Seneca…”
“Seneca?” Kerrisl repeated with a worried expression, “Obviously not friendly?”

Galligan ran the feathers through his fingers as he thought. Then tossing the arrow down he quickly turned and made his way south on the trail without answering. Warrant Officer Pocketechange and Able Seamen Daveks and Trayan followed behind in great anxiety…

“That could be officer Lupega’s blood!” Daveks whispered back.

Trayan was too worried to respond to that notion and he tried to change the subject, “Interesting place!”

[On the Silverton...]

The captain still stood on the bridge as the morning sun broke over the waters of the Great Lake Ontario. No one got much sleep the night before…

“Standing Officer-Boatswain!”

“Aye Sairrr?!” Trumpman answered back from the main deck.

“Brings up th' spyug! Ahh wants tae ken whit’s happenin' ower thaur!” The captain ordered.

“Right away Sairrr!”

Standing close by, Seaman Meesterboom cocked his head….”What’d he say Sairrr?”

“Go get the bird!” Trumpman informed out of the corner of his mouth as he made fast for the galley stairs.
