Winding Down With Some Fun
As a new week approaches let me take you on a little wacky show of what arrives in our midst, no I'm not talking politicians they are simply stupid in our country, no more, no less!
Shovel-headed Garden Worm (Bipalium kewense) this slimy character only appears after rain, do not touch it is said the slime on their body carries neurotoxins, who wants to play with something that looks like this?
Also known has hammerhead worms this invasive flatworm appears at approximately ten centimeters in length along our coastline. Weird to look at!
Moving along, first time sighting a Bagworm what character is this? Caterpillar that construct their own silken bags, strengthened and camouflaged with small twigs and stalks. Creates worm’s equivalent of a protective ‘wooden cabin’, attached to the wall here, normally to a branch with a silken strand. Moth caterpillers mostly leaf-eating, group of moths called Psychidae.
Wonderful part about this sighting, "Males develop into free-flying moths while females remain forever trapped by their bag. She remains wingless, eyeless and legless!" Source Oh he cannot eat, only lives a short period when leaving his bag, he has to find her to mate super quickly.... Call that a love story for Valentines Day!
Read thought for today for meaning, my new friend in town the Familiar Chat - Oenanthe familiaris, little bird first on the wall then....
Sat/shat on the head of the Tokoloshe our magical mythical Zulu creature similar to a Goblin in other folklore I suppose... They do put the wind up some folk to stay out my garden. One on each post of the entrance, wicked bit of fun....!
Being diminutive in stature perhaps they remind me of politicians, many locals raise their beds on tins/bricks to avoid visits from the Tokoloshe. Read up about this little guy if you interested in myths.
