Phone Photography Contest 95 | Under the Shadow of the Palm Trees

There's something great about living near the equator... We have sunshine all year round. Sometimes we're overwhelmed by the heat, I admit it!, but not everyone has the luxury of being able to go to the beach in their own country in December, April, July, September, etc., any month you can think of. All we need is a couple of days off work and we can have a summer day. I usually travel between cities near the coast, because there's always a mountain separating us from the sea, which means we have to travel at least half an hour or more to get to the beaches. But then another reality sets in: having beaches nearby and delicious water all year round doesn't guarantee I'll always be able to go, either because of too much work or the old reliable excuse: "not enough money." So every time I can go, it's a rewarding and unforgettable experience.

Hay algo genial de vivir cerca del Ecuador... Aquí hay buen sol todo el año. Algunas veces nos ahogamos en calor, ¡lo acepto!, pero no todo el mundo tiene la dicha de poder ir a la playa en su propio país en Diciembre, Abril, Julio, Septiembre, etc, cualquier mes que tengamos en mente, lo único que necesitamos es tener un par de días libres en el trabajo y podemos tener un día de verano. Particularmente me muevo entre ciudades cerca de las costas, porque siempre hay una montaña que nos separa del mar y que nos hace viajar al menos media hora o más para conectar con nuestras playas, pero entonces aparece otra realidad; tener las playas cercas y el agua deliciosa todo el año no me asegura estar en las costas siempre, ya sea por exceso de trabajo o la vieja confiable: "poco dinero", así que cada vez que puedo hacerlo es una experiencia enriquecedora e inolvidable.

Lately, I've been having better luck. My wife and friends have been taking me to the coast at any time of year, almost without fail, since my dad passed away, and those days truly changed my life and made me feel better amidst the deepest sadness. This week, a trip to the beach was practically mandatory, but certain events in the capital and the dismal January economy have kept us all gathering and watching movies at home during the last days of the Christmas holiday period. More than the beaches themselves, today I want to remember and share these photos of what I enjoy most about the coast... The blue sky, the breeze, the palm trees, and the smell and sound of the sea ❤️

Últimamente he tenido más suerte. Mi esposa y mis amigos me han llevado a las costas en cualquier momento del año casi obligatoriamente después de la muerte de mi papá, y vaya que esos días me cambiaron la vida y me hicieron sentir mejor en medio de la más profunda tristeza... Esta semana tocaba playa obligatoriamente, pero ciertos acontecimientos en la capital y la nefasta economía de Enero nos mantiene a todos reuniéndonos y compartiendo películas en casa en los últimos días del periodo vacacional navideño. Más que las playas, hoy quiero recordar y compartir estas fotografías de lo que más disfruto en las costas... El cielo azul, la brisa, las palmeras y el olor y el sonido del mar ❤️

Yes, these are digital photographs, taken with my phone on a beach day, but I look at these images and I can smell the sea and hear the sound of the waves; in fact, I'm writing these words and feeling a sense of peace sitting here at my desk. These photos are a reminder of how important it is to allow ourselves to connect with nature and get away from work and the city. Of course, we all carry peace within us, but being under the shade of the palm trees, appreciating the blue sky with the sound of the waves in the background, is truly a healing experience for the body, mind, and soul. 🙏 I wanted to share a little of this gift from God and these beautiful feelings with you in this wonderful mobile photography contest.
