A Halloween in black and roses

Hello hivers here is my Halloween 2025
Halloween is not only about ghosts and ghouls it’s also about mystery, emotion, and the beauty hidden in the shadows. This year, I wanted to capture something different from the usual costumes and pumpkins. I chose to express the darker, more emotional side of Halloween through a single black-and-white portrait a moment frozen between beauty and sorrow, with a rose as my silent witness.

The monochrome tone strips away color, leaving only contrast, emotion, and light. In this photograph, the rose becomes a powerful symbol a blend of life and death, passion and pain. Its softness contrasts with the somber expression, showing that even in darkness, beauty can still exist. The grayscale palette creates a hauntingly poetic atmosphere, where every shadow tells a story and every glimmer of light hints at hidden strength.

The inspiration behind this picture came from the idea that Halloween doesn’t always have to be about fear it can also be about reflection. The season is a time when the veil between worlds is said to thin, allowing us to connect with our deeper selves. The tears, the dark tones, and the somber expression symbolize transformation and emotional release. The rose, pressed gently against my skin, represents both love and loss — a reminder that even the most beautiful things can fade, yet their memory lingers like perfume in the air.

Shooting this in black and white gave me a sense of timelessness. Without color, the focus turns to emotion, detail, and contrast. The shadows on the wall, the softness of the rose petals, and the light glinting on the skin all work together to create a cinematic and gothic feel perfect for Halloween.
To me, this image captures the essence of what Halloween can be: not just frightening, but deeply human. It’s about embracing the darkness within and finding beauty in it. As the world decorates with cobwebs and flickering candles, I offer this simple image a rose in the dark as a symbol of haunting elegance and quiet strength.
