Habit of a Lifetime

The older we get, the more habits we pick up and a handful we let go of too. We let go of the toxic habits that no longer serve us and embrace the healthy habits that make us better humans.

A Habit That Changed My Life

Over the years, I cultivated a good number of habits that have interestingly helped make me a better person. No doubt the bad habits were there, but I made a conscious effort to let them go as they were causing me more harm than good.

One of the many habits that changed my life is self-acceptance. The phrase SELF-ACCEPTANCE may look simple, but it carries so much meaning. The impact of this phrase is life-changing.

As far back as I can remember, accepting who I was was a big struggle. I’d lash out at myself, I’d be full of regrets, I’d say mean things to myself, and also compare myself with others. In my books, I wasn’t good enough, not just for everyone else but my own self and that sucked.

Nothing about myself was interesting or unique, I was there, existing and surviving this crazy world.

Learning to accept my flaws, fears, imperfections, body, and everything was liberating. It solved half of my problem in life and nudged me in the right direction. I can categorically say that it was just what I needed in my life.

This newfound habit of mine meant no judging, beating, comparing, or criticizing. It meant being kind to myself, loving and accepting every part of myself. It was tough at the beginning as I’ve done the opposite all my life.

Practicing this habit felt strange and a total waste of time, but with time it began to pay off, it began to make sense, and above all, it felt right and satisfying.

This life transformational habit didn’t just become a regular habit as it took a lot of patience and time to understand that I matter and I deserve every good thing that comes my way. It also took time to believe that whatever was contrary to this was irrelevant and it sure took a lot of work to make this habit part of my daily life, and ever since then, I have never looked back.

Practicing self-acceptance is one habit that changed my life, and I’m so glad I took the bold step to go on this journey.

What about you, what’s that one habit that changed your life? Was it for good or bad? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comment section.
