Year-End Thanksgiving, Cleaning Under My Bed, and Building a DIY Barrier
0 comments

Yesterday was a bit extra compared to my usual days. I attended our year-end Thanksgiving with my family as part of our religion and tradition. After that, I followed my plan to clean under my bed. I noticed a lot of accumulated dust that I had not cleaned for almost six months, so I decided to finally deal with it. Later that day, I also assisted my father and sibling in building a DIY barrier using mainly the bamboo poles and old iron sheets. Without further ado, let’s get started.
Year-End Thanksgiving

I woke up at 5 AM to attend church. Compared to our usual church duties, this day was special because it was dedicated to thanking God for everything. We believe that every blessing we receive on Earth comes from God. While these blessings are also the result of our hard work, I believe they only became possible through His guidance. That is why this day is extra special in our tradition.
Because the occasion was special, we took group photos together. We captured photos from different angles of the church, including the sign outside, the building itself, and the tarpaulin. My mom was the mastermind behind this since she loves collecting memories. She also enjoys posting them on her Facebook account, hoping to receive her payout soon. While my siblings and I were already complaining about taking too many photos, she somehow had a point. I may hate waking up early to attend church, but I do not really have a choice since I do not know how to drive.
Cleaning Under My Bed

Last week, I cleaned my drawer and wiped the ceiling, which I promise to publish tomorrow. Although I was already sleepy, I still managed to clean under my bed. The first thing I did was remove my ergonomic chair and bookshelf. After that, I pulled out all the items stored underneath and could not believe how dusty everything was.
I then detached the bed and removed the plywood on the deck to clean it thoroughly. Once everything was cleaned, I wiped each item with a rag before putting them back. I honestly could not believe how much cleaner and cozier my bed felt afterward. Next week, I plan to clean the right side of my bed. I will also look for new storage boxes since the ones we used from my mom’s groceries are already worn out.
Building a DIY Barrier

My dad, who has always liked assembling things, decided to build a DIY barrier. This is despite the fact that he suffered a mild stroke four years ago, which was one of the biggest challenges our family faced. It has also been a long-time plan for us to build a concrete barrier and repaint our house. In addition, the tiles in our living room now have visible cracks and signs of lifting, indicating the need for renovation. If you ask me what improvement I want most in our house, it would be repainting my room and building a storage area. Unfortunately, budget limitations prevent us from doing these things for now.
For the DIY barrier, my dad borrowed old bamboo poles from my aunt to use as pillars. He also asked my younger brother to borrow old steel sheets, and we were able to get four. The first step was attaching the bamboo to an existing metal structure. He secured it tightly using aluminum wire to prevent it from falling. After that, they nailed the steel sheets onto the bamboo pillars. I helped by holding the sheets steady to ensure they would not move or fall while being nailed.

Update: A while ago, we added a steel rod in the middle to improve stability after noticing signs that it might fall. We also re-nailed the structure because it was uneven. Lastly, they painted it to improve its overall appearance.
That’s all. Thank you for reading!
