Hey All,

Well my driving license expired and my age is above 40 Years. I got my license when I was in college and for the first time the driving license is given with a validity of 20 years. So by the time the license expires most of the people will be almost 40+ years or even above that based on the age they got their license. Please note if your DL is near its expiry date, it’s essential that you get it renewed. There is associated fee to it if you renew within a 30-day grace period for you need to pay a nominal fee of ₹600+. A penalty of ₹1,000 will be chargeable annually from the grace period’s expiry date. Lets now look at the renew process of Driving License Online in India
Visit the Government of India MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT & HIGHWAYS website which is
Select appropriate state i.e. the state you are currently living in. It doesn't matter if your getting your license renewed from another state. I got my first license from Maharashtra and got it renewed from Gujarat as currently I am residing here.

Click on "Services on Drivers License(Renewal/Duplicate/AEDL/Others)" from "Driving License" menu
Fill up application form; its pretty simple form and you will need to attach address proof, medical certificate from an MBBS [Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery] doctor stating your fit and have no eyesight problem. There is prescribed form which you need to get signed by the MBBS doctor and have it stamped as well.

Once you have submitted the form with the required documents you need to pay a nominal fees which is around Rs.600+. These documents are then verified by the authorized RTO office people and incase they see that some documents needs to be updated the same would reflect in the application status. I had to resubmit my address proof as the picture was not clear. Its imperative to keep checking application status are regular intervals and once you see that all the documents have been accepted and the DL [Driving License] has been given for printing that's it you are all done with the formalities of getting your DL renewed.

Here is the screenshot I took when everything was on track, along with the action names indicating the progress. Once the license was dispatched, I received a message from Parivahan indicating this and providing me with the Speed Post tracking ID number. To be honest, this tracking ID number should be ignored because whenever I checked the status, it said "tracking ID not found" – what the hell. Anyway, just ignore this tracking ID number and wait for about 15 days for your renewed driving license to arrive. Another truth: this time, the license is not renewed for 20 years; it is renewed for 10 years only. So yes, you will need to go through the process again after 10 years. I hope this is helpful and provides some insight if you are planning to renew your license here in India and are above 40 years of age. Cheers!
