5 lire Silver Coin 1869 / Moneta d'argento - 5 Lire 1869 (ENG/ITA)

Tonight I wanted to introduce you to this coin, not very valuable in terms of numismatic market value, but with an important historical value, as it represents the early years after the unification of Italy, which King Victor Emmanuel II declared on March 17, 1861.

This 1869 5 lire coin depicts the profile of Victor Emmanuel II, with his famous "Handlebar Mustache," a characteristic that many powerful men of the time had, but which represents the figure of the first king in Italian history.

Many desserts have also been dedicated to these famous handlebar mustaches, including the "Baffi di Vittorio Emanuele II," a delicious mustache-shaped cake with chocolate cream and a cherry heart, or, as legend has it, the much more commercial "Krumiri" of Bistefani, a company in Casale Monferrato, in the province of Alessandria, in the Piedmont region where the royal family of Savoy resided.

On the back of the coin, you can see the coat of arms of the Savoy family with a crown, the same emblem printed on the Italian flag until the 1946 referendum that ended the monarchy and began the Republic.

Weighing 25 grams, with a silver content of 900 (therefore 22.5 grams of silver), from a numismatic point of view, the coins that are worth the most are those near 1861, which, if in Fior di Conio condition, can reach a value of several thousand euros.

Questa sera volevo presentarvi questa moneta, non preziosissima in quanto a valore di mercato numismatico, ma con un importante valore storico, perchè rappresenta i primi anni dopo l'unità d'Italia che proprio Re Vittorio Emanuele II dichiarò il 17 marzo del 1861.

Questa moneta da 5 lire del 1869 raffigura il profilo di Vittorio Emanuele II , con i suoi famosissimi "Baffi a manubrio", caratteristica che avevano molti uomini di potere dell'epoca, ma che rappresentano la figura del primo Re nella storia italiana.

Anche molti dolci sono stati dedicati a questi famosi baffi a manubrio, tra cui i "Baffi di Vittorio Emanuele II", una deliziosa torta a forma di baffi con una crema al cioccolato e un cuore di ciliegie, oppure, leggenda vuole, i molto più commerciali "Krumiri" della Bistefani, azienda di Casale Monferrato, in provincia di Alessandria, in quel Piemonte dove risiedeva la famiglia reale dei Savoia.

Sul retro della moneta si può vedere lo stemma dei Savoia con una corona, lo stesso stemma impresso sulla bandiera italiana fino al referendum del 1946 che pose fine alla monarchia e diede inizio alla Repubblica.

Peso di 25 grammi, con titolo d'argento di 900 (quindi 22,5 grammi di argento), dal punto di vista numismatico, le monete che valgono di più sono quelle vicine al 1861, che, se Fior di Conio, possono raggiungere la quotazione di svariati migliaia di euro.
