Guess what people, I am going again to @hivefest 😍 in Malaysia baby!

It has been quite a few rough months lately, and when I saw the Telegram chat starting to move words about where everyone was thinking Hive was going to be... I knew it was already incoming. And that was really refreshing when I found it was Malaysia.

This year was a big year for us, and lots happened in our lives. For the positive side of things, I mean... on top of it, we are a bit under pressure over expenses until the end of this year.

Mainly and unfortunately, for that reason, the plans to bring the entire family on a trip this close can't go forward this year. It would be difficult to make it work this early (for personal reasons), and my wife knows this is quite a thing for me... so, I am the only one going again.

But for sure, I still have plans to bring the entire family on a big trip one day. That moment, this will seal the way I always envisioned my life on Hive.

19 Weeks! Start the countdown! (I have added it to this post) - I am also doing something different to kind of influence people to plan for the next one if they are not able to come to this one.

If you noticed, I have created an account just for planning funds to @hivefest, called @forky.travels, and I am funnelling the author rewards of this post into that account. That account might hold funds in many formats, but might be mostly in HBD format, I am guessing. Although not limited, because there is always Layer 2 on Hive, and sometimes those places are more promising for holding funds in the long term.

Donations or any rewards during the HiveFest will be deployed there. Kind of to make me think about the impact of going to HiveFest in a way, but also to allow me to show that to everyone. As of now, I don't yet plan to spend those funds, but the intention of that account is for that! Might also be to support others... I have no clue yet what this will become.

Even if I had planned for lots to happen in the first half of the year, the reality is that I could not. IRLW and New Zealand Government changes messed up all my time, and suddenly my work became a madness of time-sensitive things. Still not over... but there are moments like this weekend, that I can breathe for a bit.

The biggest thing that happened was 2 more SAS SSDs into the already ZFS RaidZ supporting @atexoras.witness Hive-Engine Full node. Not that it needed an upgrade, but now I don't need to worry for a few more years.

But the disk upgrade didn't stay there... I had previously 12x 2TB SAS disks drawing an amazing 150 Watts! And I have now switched them to SSDs, making that power draw drop to almost 10 Watts! (because SSDs when not doing anything, don't consume much power)

Yes, for both situations I had to rebuild the RaidZ's but that's just moving data around on ZFS. Which is fine... and soon ZFS will allow us to grow Raidz raids... so eventually this becomes an easier task.

For now, this is where the HAF node will be living... I am very late on that progress. But the place is set now. Just need to set up things. My intention is to have it ready and publicly available before I head down to @hivefest.

Also, not an upgrade, but some of you might know I also run another node for @atexoras.vsc and oh boy! That node is a fricking blast! I even forget sometimes it's running...

Currently running rotarry disks for "unlimited" space for VSC Projects, but eventually will get SSDs too... Either way, the OrangePi supporting it consumes a whopping 5 watts! 😜 WAY less than the 55 Watts of HDDs connected to 🤯

My intention is to get another ARM motherboard eventually... I really think running the Hive-Engine full node on ARM is the way forward! Just need one that has enough PCIe lanes to run the RAID SAS card, and that should be perfect.

Finally, I have another 6-core system I need to revive, but I need some extra memory to run another Hive witness node. These days, I always need 2 nodes running for failover. Plus, when running the HAF node, I don't wanna impact other things when in need of upgrades, maintenance, etc.

All fun, but I wish I had more time. All custom, at home, fully decentralised!

And besides all the "oh I don't have time for this and that"... I still can play some Hive games. Yes, but make no mistake, this is where my "I don't need a brain" works very effectively.
