Synopsis :

The story begins in 1504, in the south of France, in the town of Lamartine (fictional city).

Néro (Pio Marmaï) is an assassin working for the Consul of Lamartine, Rochemort (Louis-Do de Lencquesaing). The consul had his daughter's fiancé killed so that she could marry the Prince of Ségur, which would be better for his investments.

L'histoire commence en 1504, dans le Sud de la France, dans la ville de Lamartine (ville fictive).

Néro (Pio Marmaï) est un assassin au service du Consul de Lamartine, Rochemort (Louis-Do de Lencquesaing). Le consul a d'ailleurs fait éliminer le fiancé de sa fille, afin qu'elle épouse le Prince de Ségur, ce qui arrangerait mieux ses investissements.

A one-eyed witch (Camille Razat) arrives in town and strikes a deal with the consul, as she knows that the last descendant of the Devil is in Lamartine. It is said that this last descendant will herald the Apocalypse.

Néro has a 14-year-old daughter whom he left at the orphanage in the care of the monk Horace (Olivier Gourmet) from the moment she was born (and her mother, a prostitute, died in childbirth) until today. The one-eyed witch is after Néro and therefore also his daughter Perla (Lily-Rose Carlier Taboury).

Une sorcière borgne (Camille Razat) est arrivée en ville et conclut un accord avec le consul, car elle sait que le dernier descendant du Diable se trouve à Lamartine. Il est dit que ce dernier descendant serait annonciateur de l'Apocalypse.

Néro a une fille de 14 ans qu'il a laissée à l'orphelinat, aux bons soins du moine Horace (Olivier Gourmet), depuis la naissance (et décès en couches de sa mère, une prostituée) jusqu'à aujourd'hui. La sorcière borgne est aux trousses de Néro et donc aussi de sa fille Perla (Lily-Rose Carlier Taboury).

The Consul's daughter, Hortense (Alice Isaaz), finally agrees to go to Ségur to marry the young Prince (Max Baissette de Malglaive). The journey to Ségur will be fraught with danger, particularly due to the penitents who are massacring numerous villages already affected by a severe drought.

Lamartine's consul arrives in Ségur before his daughter and takes the opportunity to manipulate one or two people.

La fille du Consul, Hortense (Alice Isaaz), accepte finalement de se rendre à Ségur pour y épouser le jeune Prince (Max Baissette de Malglaive). Le chemin jusqu'à Ségur sera semé d'embûches, notamment à cause des pénitents qui massacrent de nombreux villages, déjà impactés par une sérieuse sécheresse.

Le consul de Lamartine arrivera d'ailleurs avant sa fille, à Ségur et en profitera pour manipuler l'une ou l'autre personne.

We really enjoyed it and a second season could be on the cards, but nothing has been decided yet.

Spain served as the filming location to represent the arid south of France, particularly around Barcelona and Valencia. The town of Ventimiglia in Italy, as well as Menton, Nice, Cannes and Perpignan in the south of France, completed the setting.

Nous avons bien aimé et une saison 2 pourrait être envisagée, mais rien n'est encore écrit.

L'Espagne a servi de lieu de tournage pour représenter un Sud de la France aussi aride, notamment du côté de Barcelone et de Valence. La ville de Vintimille en Italie, ainsi que Menton, Nice, Cannes et Perpignan dans le Midi de la France ont complété le décor.

As I mentioned in my article on the French series ‘Révolution’, we don't often watch French films or series. So we don't necessarily remember the actors' names, even if we recognise their faces.

To help us out, I did some research on the filmographies of a few of them:

• Pio Marmaï: Nero. He played Porthos in The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan and Milady.
• Alice Isaaz: Hortense. She played Natacha in The Price of Passage.
• Olivier Gourmet: Horace. Belgian actor, played Antoine Veil in Simone, the Journey of the Century.
• Camille Razat: one-eyed witch. She played Camille Lalisse in Emily in Paris.
• Yann Gael: Lothar. He played Bostar in Gladiator 2.

Comme je vous l'ai dit dans mon article sur la série française "Révolution", nous ne regardons pas souvent des films ou séries françaises. Nous ne retenons donc pas forcément le nom des acteurs, même si nous reconnaissons les visages de ceux-ci.

Pour nous aider, j'ai fait quelques recherches sur la filmographie de certains :

• Pio Marmaï : Néro. Il a joué Porthos dans les Trois Mousquetaires D'Artagnan et Milady.
• Alice Isaaz : Hortense. Elle jouait Natacha dans le Prix du Passage.
• Olivier Gourmet : Horace. Acteur belge, a joué Antoine Veil dans Simone, le Voyage du Siècle.
• Camille Razat : sorcière borgne. Elle a joué Camille Lalisse dans Emily in Paris.
• Yann Gael : Lothar. Il a joué Bostar dans Gladiator 2.

The special effects are well done. There was less blood than in ‘Revolution’, but the penitents were still not the most delicate.

Les effets spéciaux sont bien réalisés. Il y avait moins de sang que dans "Révolution", mais les pénitents n'étaient tout de même pas des plus délicats.
